3rd person POV
Midnight. The streets are usually empty at this hour, with only the occasional car passing by. But not tonight. Tonight, a certain figure can be seen approaching one of the houses, their heavy steps breaking the silence.
The figure looks human but is noticeably larger, with hands the size of, or perhaps even bigger than, a grown man's head.
While the description might make it sound like some kind of monster, this couldn't be further from the truth.
Along with the sounds of footsteps, there is also another, much quieter sound coming from the figure. Sobbing.
The giant isn't here by himself. On his shoulder sits a cat, quietly watching a baby that the figure cradles in their arms.
Seeing the giant's tears, the cat jumps off him. The giant turns around, but instead of the cat, he sees a woman in a dark robe and glasses.
Giant: Why do we 'ave ter do this? he asks while trying to stop the crying.
Woman: You know why, Hagrid. It's for his safety.
Hagrid: I know that. I'm askin' why we gotta separate 'em. Wouldn't it be better for 'em to be together? Y'know, if their families turn out ter be terrible, it'd be better fer 'em ter have each other.
Woman: Yes, we have to separate them. That way, if one of them gets found, the other is still safe.
Hagrid: I suppose yer right...
Meanwhile, in one of the houses a couple is watching TV, staying as quiet as possible not to wake up their two-year-old son sleeping in the bedroom above them.
It isn't just some ordinary couple. Well, at least one of them isn't. The man - Howard L/N, is a wizard that fell in love with Natalie Harrell, a muggle, and decided to live the rest of his life with her in the muggle world. A few years later their first son, Hunter, was born.
Normally they wouldn't stay up so late, but earlier this week they got a letter from Howard's old teacher, Albus Dumbledore, asking for a rather unusual favor. He wanted them to adopt and raise a child, whose parents were killed by the Dark Lord.
The child doesn't have any known relatives who would be able to help and Albus didn't really want to give him to any unrelated muggles or even wizards who he didn't fully trust. Howard was the best possible choice here, since he was Dumbledore's best student and wouldn't disappoint him.
Howard and Natalie had to think about it for a while, since suddenly having to take care of another child without much time to prepare wouldn't be easy, but they decided to adopt him after learning the details of what happened to his parents.
Tonight was the night Dumbledore said Hagrid would give them the baby, so they had to stay up longer than usual, because a giant couldn't just show up on the street during the day.
Finally they hear a knock to the door. Howard opens the door to see Hagrid with tears in his eyes and McGonagall as a cat, sitting on his shoulder. In his arms Hagrid held little Y/N.
Hagrid: Please, take good care of 'im.
Howard: Of course. Don't worry, you will probably see him in Hogwarts in about 11 years.
Hagrid: Yeah, if yeh raise 'im ter be like yeh, I'll probably even get tired of 'im.
They both laughed. Howard was a good student, but that doesn't mean he was a good kid, especially to the teachers.
They talked for a little while before Hagrid and McGonagall left and Howard took Y/N to Hunter's old cradle before he and Natalie went to sleep relieved that the boy was rather quiet for his age. They hoped it wasn't just because he was tired and it would stay like that.
They were wrong.
Since they got him, they had many sleepless nights, just like with Hunter when he was Y/N's age.
They apparently weren't tired enough though, because a year after adopting Y/N, they had another child, this time a daughter, Alice, bringing more noise to the house, but they didn't mind.
They were sure Y/N would be a wizard, since as far as they knew, both his real parents were pure-blood. He could be a squib, but that was unlikely.
They weren't sure about Hunter and Alice. They didn't know if the chances of a half-blood kid becoming a wizard are high or not.
That didn't stop Howard from telling his kids about the wizards' world, but he told them to keep it a secret from others. He told them that's because he wants to protect the wizards from normal people who could hurt them.
In reality it was because Howard knew other kids would end up making fun of the "fairy tales" about magic, which would only annoy Alice, Y/N and Hunter, who knew it was all true. They've literally seen their dad change a cup into a hamster. They didn't get to name him before he changed back though.
Finally, about nine years after Y/N got a new family, his older brother got a letter he had been waiting for so long. His letter to Hogwarts.
Hunter's siblings were jealous, but now they knew that if their brother got the letter, they would get it too.
Now it was even harder for them to patiently wait, because of Hunter's stories about the animals and magical items he saw at the school.
Unfortunately, Hunter also learned about the differences between pure-bloods, half-bloods and muggle-borns and that even wizards' children aren't guaranteed to be wizards themselves, which made Alice and Y/N nervous.
Howard and Natalie were trying to comfort them, telling them that the chances of half-bloods being squibs are very low, which they didn't actually know, they just didn't want their kids to be sad. They wanted to tell Y/N he was actually a pure-blood, but that wouldn't be the smartest. They could only wait for him and Alice to turn eleven.
==========
A/N: Another story. Yeah, sorry for not updating the other two stories regularly. I will TRY.
Anyways, for all the new people that don't care about the TWD and spider man stories, I want to warn you that this book will be very different from the original Harry Potter.
Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets will be similar with changes mainly just in dialogue, but in Prisoner of Azkaban the changes will start to be more visible and will also apply to more major plot points.
There is one more chapter released the same day as this one, so check it out and if you like it remember to vote and comment to motivate me to continue the story.
