The battle had raged on for hours. Ryumi’s movements were swift and precise, her chakra flaring as she took down rogue shinobi one after another. The mission was supposed to be a simple retrieval task, but it quickly turned into a fight for survival when they were ambushed by a group of rogue ninjas. Sasuke and Ryumi had been pushed to their limits, each of them covering the other’s back in an unspoken rhythm forged by years of being teammates.

Ryumi’s sharp green eyes scanned the battlefield, her senses heightened as she tracked every movement. She could feel the wind tug at her long black hair, her focus unwavering as she dodged and countered, her attacks precise, devastating. But as the fight went on, it became clear that the rogues were relentless. They weren’t just aiming to defeat them—they were out for blood.

A sharp movement caught Ryumi’s attention—one of the rogues had thrown a kunai with deadly accuracy, aiming straight for her back. She had barely a moment to react, her body twisting instinctively to avoid it. But the angle was too tight, and the blade was too close. There was no way she would be able to evade it in time.

In that instant, Sasuke’s voice never reached her ears, but his presence did. His eyes locked onto her in that brief moment of vulnerability, and before she could even fully process what was happening, the world around her seemed to slow.

A massive, ethereal figure erupted into existence around Sasuke. The Susanoo, glowing with an otherworldly light, surrounded Ryumi in a protective barrier. The great phantom was a deep purple, with glowing lines of chakra coursing through its form. It materialized just in time, a massive arm sweeping down to intercept the kunai before it could strike her.

Ryumi’s heart skipped a beat as she turned in surprise, her wide green eyes meeting the figure of the Susanoo. She felt the raw power of Sasuke’s chakra all around her, an invisible shield that had materialized in the blink of an eye. The rogue’s kunai was nothing more than a flicker of metal, deflected harmlessly by the massive arm. Sasuke’s Susanoo had acted without hesitation, its presence an undeniable force on the battlefield.

Her gaze drifted to Sasuke, still standing a little farther away. She could see him, his eyes focused on the fight ahead, the glow of his Susanoo illuminating his features. But it was in that moment, the way his chakra shielded her, that Ryumi truly understood. His action hadn’t been calculated—it had been instinctive. He hadn’t hesitated, not for a second. Sasuke had acted to protect her, as quietly and effortlessly as he always did, without a single word spoken.

Her lips parted slightly in surprise, her breath caught in her chest. Her gaze stayed on him as she registered the subtle shift in his expression, the way his eyes flicked briefly in her direction. For the briefest of moments, their eyes met. His gaze softened ever so slightly, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them. His actions had been more than just protection—they had been a silent message.

Ryumi’s heart skipped another beat. She didn’t know what to say or how to react. She wasn’t one to show vulnerability, to need anyone. But in that moment, she felt something stir within her, something she had been ignoring for far too long. Sasuke had always been there for her in ways she could never quite put into words. But now, seeing him act so effortlessly, so decisively, she realized that the bond between them went deeper than she had ever allowed herself to admit.

Sasuke’s Susanoo dissipated just as quickly as it had appeared, and Ryumi’s focus snapped back to the battle. The rogues were still around, and she needed to stay focused. But her heart was racing, her thoughts tangled as she shifted her stance, preparing to strike again. There was a part of her—somewhere deep inside—that couldn’t shake the feeling that everything had changed, even if just a little.

The wind swept her hair back, the long strands dancing in the breeze, her green eyes still flicking to Sasuke now and then. She could almost feel the weight of his gaze on her, even without looking.

She didn’t know what it meant yet. She didn’t know where it would go or how to process it. But for the first time in a long while, Ryumi was starting to realize something important.

Sasuke had always been her protector, her silent guardian. And in that moment, she understood that maybe, just maybe, she had been his, too.
