Warnings: mild language; super short chapter
The next day, (Y/N) did as planned and spoke with Chuck. The sweet boy wasn't holding any negative feelings towards her and still looked up to her. Of course, he called her crazy for thinking it was a good idea to try and mess with the Grievers. The way he sort of tried to lecture her made her laugh with fondness for the younger boy.
A couple of days later, everything had gone back to normal at the Glade. The others didn't give (Y/N) curious or questioning side glances after what she did and the girl didn't cause any more 'problems'.
She had been doing her job at the Maze quietly and dutifully, despite in her core she still believed they wouldn't get anywhere the way they were now.
Minho had quickly gone back to being relaxed around her. Like Newt, he too understood when people got to a point where they did something drastic. He didn't stay mad or treated the Shebean differently after that. In fact, his genuine fondness and worry for the girl made him want to keep a closer eye on her, and he was satisfied when he saw she had gone back to normal.
Of course, the girl was simply keeping her friends in the dark about her true and constant thoughts, and by doing that she appeared as though she had gone back to normal.
In a few days, a new Greenie would come up to the Glade and they all would have something to sort of entertain themselves again. (Y/N) was admittedly a bit excited with the arrival of this new Greenie because it would be Chuck's debut as a guide of the Glade. The younger boy's excitement for that day to come always make her smile.
By everyone's calculations, today would be the day the new Greenie would arrive. (Y/N) even came back from the Maze earlier so she could be with Chuck before his big moment.
The girl and Chuck had both been in front of the Homestead simply talking, to keep the boy distracted and calm. Despite his excitement, he was still a bit nervous. He felt like this new job was a sort of way of him showing the older Gladers that he could contribute more and be regarded more seriously.
When the day kept passing and there were no signs of a Greenie showing up, Chuck's chubby face fell with disappointment and (Y/N) put her arm around his shoulders. Normally, the Greenies didn't arrive so late, so it was probable that the new guy wouldn't be arriving that day.
"Don't worry, Chucky. I'm sure the Greenie will come tomorrow." (Y/N) said in an attempt to cheer him up.
He smiled up at her, thankful for her constant reassurance.
Before they could do anything else, the sound of the Box coming up exploded in the air, catching everyone by surprise.
"It's the Box, right?" Chuck asked loudly and eagerly. That was the first time he was hearing that noise after all.
"Yup. Guess they sent him a bit late today after all." The girl replied with smile.
The pair stayed a bit of a distance away from the Homestead, watching as the other Gladers went closer to the Box to 'welcome' the new Greenie. Chuck was excited to go there as well, but (Y/N)'s hand on his shoulder reminded him that they had agreed that Alby would be the first to interact with the Greenie and then Chuck would take over. Besides, the others had the tendency of liking to mess around with the Greenies at first, so it was best if the younger boy stayed a bit far away from all the disarray that was the removal of a new Greenie from inside the Box.
