After school ended later that day , Carlos had fencing practice, and like she said, y/n came to watch.

"All right, boys. Let's line it up," Jay instructed. Carlos, you're with me. Let's go."

"Yeah," Carlos replied.

"Assembler. Salute. Lower the point. Masks down. En garde," Jay says. "Keep your center! Whoa! Eyes on your opponent! Up and over," Jay kept instructing as the boys continued to duel.

One by one, each of the boys got eliminated until it was just Jay and another person. Jay wasn't one to give up, but from the looks of it, his opponent was just as determined.

"Get him, Jay!" Carlos encouraged his friend.

"Nice!" Chad said.

"Jay, what happened?" Carlos asked as Jay lost his word to his opponent.

"Finish him," Chad said.

Jay managed to take his sword back, and he swung it over his shoulder just as his opponent took off their mask and revealed themself.

"It's Lonnie!" Jane exclaimed from the bleachers on top of the stadium. The girls, including y/n, clapped for her.

"Go Lonnie!" y/n said, earning a fond smile from Lonnie.

"Not bad," Jay complemented her.

"You should put me on the team," Lonnie said.

Just as Jay was about to agree to the idea, Chad interjected. "Hey, w-what?! No, no, no. We'll-- We'll be the laughing stock of the league. A-And what's gonna happen next? We'll have girls playing tourney? Come on, guys."

"So?" Jay asked.

"Yeah, what's the problem, Chad?" y/n asked from the top steps.

"So? Uh, so, have you not read the rule book?" Chad pulled out a small book from his back pocket and flipped through the pages before landing on the one he was looking for and reading it aloud. "Section 2, paragraph 3, 11-4. 'A team will be comprised of a captain and eight men'," he quoted, with strong emphasis on the last word.

"Hmm? Why don't you read the rule book?" He waved it in the air for everyone to see. "See? It's all written on paper. Not even the King's royal advisor could change it." He looked at y/n pointedly, who rolled her eyes in return.

"Okay, yeah, but you're down a man! I mean, Ben had to leave to do all that king stuff," Lonnie pointed out.

"Exactly. We're down a man," Chad retorted.

"Jay..." Lonnie looked to Jay for backup.

"I'm sorry," Jay said apologetically. "Coach trusts me. I'm not stay captain if I just throw out the rule book."

"If my mother thought that way, she would have lost the war," Lonnie said.

"Okay," Chad scoffed. "Rule book. Rule book," he then repeated as she walked out of the amphitheater.

"All right, guys. Practice is over," Jay declared. "Let's go."

Everyone cleared out of the theatre until it was just Carlos and y/n. She made her way down the steps while on her phone before approaching Carlos.

"Hi," she greeted him as she switched off her phone. "Great practice."

Carlos smiled at her. "Thanks."

"I'll see you around?"

"Wait, uhh, before you left, I was hoping we could talk?"

"Sure. About what?"
