"Maybe a bit," she said with a smile. However, her smile faded almost instantly.

"What's wrong?" Carlos asked, noticing the change in her expression.

"Carlos, it is my fault Ben got kidnapped," she said in a heavy voice.

"Y/n, we already talked about this-" Carlos said, but y/n placed a finger on his lips to silence him.

"No, it is. I let him go after he spoke to Mal. I didn't even think to tell you guys." She removed her finger from his lips and looked away guiltily.

"But why did he leave?" Carlos asked.

"We said he wanted to be alone." Y/n looked into Carlos's eyes. "Carlos, Mal gave him his ring back."

"What?"

"I saw it in his hand as he walked away. And the look in his eyes..." Y/n shook her head, trying to forget the memory.

Carlos pulled her in his arms, engulfing her in a tight hug. "I didn't know that. I never knew she would end their relationship."

"Me neither," y/n said.

"So, what now? What about Cotillion, the press, their relationship? Will Mal even come back with us?" Carlos asked the last question to himself.

"I don't know, and honestly, I don't want to think about it right now. All we can do for now is hope that Mal gets Ben back and we can get back to Auradon without anyone noticing we were gone," y/n replied.

Carlos nodded his head. "Right. Of course."

Y/n looked up at him, her eyes softening. "Let's talk about something else. After all, it looks like we got quite a bit of time to kill."

"Alright. What do you want to talk about?" he asked, smiling.

After a few seconds, y/n spoke. "What happened to Dude?"

Carlos laughed. "Seriously?"

The smile on y/n's face grew. "Yeah, seriously."

"Fine. Mal was supposed to give me a potion, but before she could, Dude ate it."

Y/n chuckled. "What a story. What was the potion for, by the way?"

Carlos's face turned red. "Well, ummm..." he stammered, pushing his hair out of his face.

Oblivious to how nervous Carlos seemed, y/n ran her fingers through his hair. "Why'd you change your hair?" she asked.

He sighed, relieved she changed the topic. "I thought it looked better this way," he answered.

"Oh," she replied softly, her fingers still in his hair.

"Do you like it?" he asked.

"Yeah, but your old hair was also nice," she said.

"No, I think you like it better like this," he said with a small chuckle.

Y/n blushed slightly. "Maybe I do," she shrugged.

He pulled her closer, so that she was almost sitting in his lap. "I know you do," he whispered in her ear.

She turned to face him, a smile on her face. She rested her head against his shoulder, looking up at him, while he placed his arm around her.

"They should be back soon," she said to him.

A few moments later, Evie and Jay entered the hideout, just as y/n predicted. Y/n moved further away from Carlos, who frowned slightly but kept his arm around her.
