I know some of you might be mad at me right now. I get it. If I were in your shoes, I might be mad too. When we fall in love with characters, we want to see them happy, to watch them get their happily ever after. And I won't lie this wasn't that kind of story. But it was never meant to be.
From the beginning, Burning Ice was always going to be a short and tragic love story. Some love stories don't last forever. Some are fleeting, burning bright before they're gone, leaving behind nothing but memories and what-ifs. That's what I wanted to capture here—the kind of love that changes you, even if it doesn't get the ending you hoped for.
This story is personal to me in a few ways, and maybe that's why I never wavered on how it would end. Life doesn't always give us clean, happy endings. Sometimes, it gives us heartbreak, grief, and unanswered questions. But even in that, there's something real, something beautiful. Because love—no matter how short-lived—matters.
And for those of you who are grieving Nate, who wanted more for him and Billie just know, Billie's story isn't over yet. Life goes on, even when it feels impossible. And while this chapter of her life has closed, she's still here. Still fighting. Still learning how to live with the love and the loss.
Which brings me to this—while Burning Ice was always meant to be a standalone, I won't say Billie's journey is completely over. There's a possibility for a sequel, for a story about what comes next for her. About healing, about rediscovering life after loss, about finding love again—whatever that may look like for her.
And for those of you who need a break from the heartbreak, I promise I'm also working on stories that don't end in tragedy. Stories with love that lasts, with characters who get to have their happiness without it being ripped away. Because while not every love story has a happy ending, some do.
So whether you're here for the angst, the heartbreak, or the promise of something softer, I hope you'll stick around. There's more to come.
Thank you for reading, for feeling this story with me, for letting Nate and Billie into your heart. It means more than you know.
