Saturday Afternoon

Yue is unpacking in her new room, room that she finds exquisite. It's the most sophisticated place she has ever stayed in. She hates to admit it, but this house is proof that Dylan has good taste, or that he hired a great decorator. Someday, she'll have to ask him, but not today. Either way, it's another annoying point in his favor.

The panoramic glass doors lead to a cozy sunroom. The view of the trees makes Yue feel she's in some sort of luxury cabin in the forest. The wood and leather details in the room are masculine yet stylish. There's an elegant desk where she can study for the online courses she sometimes takes or start the book she has always wanted to write. And the best thing about it all is that both Yue and Sam get their own big bed! No more sharing cramped spaces, no more kicks in the middle of the night.

Yue never expected to live in such a nice place and get paid for it.

Thank you, Frances! I forgive you.

Yue is enthusiastically contemplating this new adventure. For some reason, she's not as apprehensive anymore. Dylan has been polite and friendly, Valerie is wonderful, the accommodation is more than Yue could ever hope for, and Sam seems already comfortable in the new location.

Suddenly, a surge of ecstasy flows through Yue's blood. She throws herself on the bed and squeals, muffled on the pillow. She cannot believe the sharp turn her life has taken, but she's mostly happy for Sam. With this job, living in this enchanting place, she will be able to give him what he deserves and perhaps even start saving for the future. These are her main motivations to excel at this job.

As she sorts through her garments, Yue's cheerful demeanor changes noticing that most of them are either worn-out or have a hole somewhere. With a growing boy to dress and feed, priorities had to be established, and expenses needed to be carefully planned. There was never a dollar to splurge, which means she hasn't been able to buy a new piece of clothing for herself since Sam was born more than five years ago.

"You need a new wardrobe," a pleasant male voice coming from her doorway mentions matter-of-factly, drilling a hole through Yue's thoughts.

Dylan.

Yue lifts her eyes and sees her insanely attractive boss leaning on the doorframe, hands shoved in his pockets, wearing a black sweater and washed-out jeans.

"You're funny." The cynicism in Yue's tone does not escape Dylan, who takes a few steps forward and folds his arms on his chest.

"I wasn't trying to be funny."

Goodness, serious Dylan is even sexier than the sweet or funny versions of Dylan.

Focus, focus!

"How long have you been there staring at me? And who's watching the kids?"

Dylan presses a smile. Why is she so feisty? "The kids are watching TV, and they are fine."
