Ame was growing impatient. He and Sasuke were supposed to walk to class together. It was their first day of being a ninja, and Ame wanted to literally and metaphorically take their first steps into this new path with their longest friend. It was possible Sasuke went on without them, although it would be out of character for him. Sasuke wasn't one to go back on an agreement, if he hadn't wanted to walk to the academy together he just wouldn't have agreed in the first place. But Ame was starting to doubt his friend, and just as he started to leave without him, a voice came from behind them.

"I thought we were supposed to walk together."

Sasuke's voice was dry. It was clear, at least to Ame, that he was poking fun at him not seriously having a problem with them trying to leave without him. It wouldn't surprise Ame at all if Sasuke had been waiting in the shadows just so he could pop out at the last minute to say something like that. But Ame ignored all of that, instead he smiled at the black haired boy and spoke.

"Thought you left without me."

Sasuke only shrugged. Seemingly not having anything else to say on the subject the two started off the walk to class. The whole walk was quiet, but it gave both of them some time to think about what was about to happen. Things were changing, they both knew that. They were both becoming ninja's now. Taking their first steps into what would be a new world for them. It's something they had both been training for as long as they could remember for, but now that it was here they both had different feelings on it.

Sasuke was ready. Not only did he feel prepared for the challenges that may come with becoming a ninja, but even if he didn't he knew this is what had to be done to avenge his clan and that was enough to push him on this path no matter what the cost. Sasuke knew what needed to be done, and deep down there was even a bit of excitement for this next step, he was going to reach his goal, there was no doubt about it, and this was going to be how he did it.

Ame on the other hand felt mixed. Being a ninja was something he had always wanted. Ever since Sasuke's family died they swore they would be strong enough to protect people. He never wanted to see something like that happen again, and he knew becoming a ninja would be the best way to guarantee he could protect people always. But now that it was here? His feelings weren't as straightforward. So much was changing, and that scared him. He wasnt a kid anymore, he would have new responsibilities as a ninja, a new routine, a new life. It was bitter sweet, and he worried about what would happen but Ame knew deep down this was what he wanted. He tried to focus on the sweet side.

Things were changing for both Ame and Sasuke but they weren't alone. And even if Sasuke would never admit it; they both found solace in having each other to go through this change with.

They were one of the first few people to arrive at the academy. Only a few other students were mingling about the class room when Ame and Sasuke walked in, which thankfully gave them both first pick of plenty of seats. Sasuke took the lead and walked up to a fully empty row. He waited for Ame to follow after him and for him to climb into the middle seat. Ame did without complaint, especially considering no one else was sitting on Ame's other side yet. And with that their seats were secured.

Ame and Sasuke spent the first part of their morning observing their classmates. It was something both of them did often, although in different ways and for different reasons.

Sasuke liked to keep an eye out. For danger, for
information, anything that could be useful to him. He didn't see the need of eavesdropping on other students conversations, but be made sure to stay alert at all times incase he happened to overhear something important to him.

Ame on the other hand was less shameless about his people watching. He liked learning everything he could about people, it gave him a better understanding of his classmates and people of their village when he overheard what they would only ever say to their close friends. Ame swore to never spread any of the information he gathered to others, he wasnt one for gossip, but he still enjoyed hearing what others had to say when they thought they had privacy.
