Before either of them could get too involved in their people watching, something caught both of their attention. A blond haired boy wearing a neon orange jumpsuit walked into the room. It wasn't news to either of them when they had heard that Naruto Uzamaki had failed the final exam to become a ninja, so what was he doing here now?
He walked into the room chest puffed out, he looked more prideful than Ame had ever seen him before. Which was a shock considering how full of himself the boy usually was. Naruto plopped himself down on the other side of Ame, seemingly oblivious to the look Sasuke and Ame were giving him.
Sasuke decided he didn't care. Not enough to warrant starting a conversation with Naruto at least. So he turned his attention away from the blond boy. But Ame wanted to know. He definitely failed the final exam, but he was here now, with a hidden lead headband too, he must have passed. Right? Naruto wouldn't stoop so low as to steal a headband? And he must know that even if he did to that, Iruka Sensei would know he hadn't passed when he walked in later. So he must have passed.
Just as Ame decided to ask him about it, someone beat them too it, albeit much more rudely than Ame planned to ask.
"They don't let failures in here, Naruto." Shikamaru said.
"Oh yeah? See this Shikimaru! This is a regulation headband! I'm a real ninja now!Believe it!" Naruto shot back, with as much confidence and pride as he walked into the classroom with.
"Didn't you fail the final exam though...?" Ame said quietly.
His close proximity to Naruto let the blond hear Ame just fine, and with Shikamaru already loosing interest in Naruto, the blond turned his attention to Ame.
"Uh-huh, at first I did, but I'm a master at shadow clone jutsu now! Believe it! Iruka was so impressed with it he made me a ninja on the spot!"
Ame blinked at him. That didn't sound right, how could he master it overnight, immediately after failing the exam. Ame didn't feel like questioning the blond any further and luckily for him, a new arrival to the classroom caught Naruto's attention.
Ino and Sakura were always bickering. This morning seemed no different because when they entered the classroom with a loud "I'm first!" followed immediately by arguments, it didn't seen to surprise anyone.
Ame tried to ignore the two girls. He wasn't the biggest fan of either of them, mostly due to how loud they were, although, there was another reason that Ame would never admit to himself. Ino and Sakura had a big crush on Sasuke. Every outing Ame and Sasuke had was interrupted by some girl or another, but especially Ino and Sakura. And Ame was jealous.
Sasuke never gave the girls any of his time, so what was there to be jealous about, right? But Ame was. He always tried to ignore his feelings, but Ame had a crush of his own on Sasuke. It was hard not to when they had been friends for so long, but Ame hated thinking about it. Sasuke could have any pick of any girl in the village if he wanted them, there was no way he would ever pick someone like Ame. At least thats what Ame thought. You would think Sasuke's disinterest in all the girls would give Ame hope, but for Ame that made it worse. Sasuke showing no interest in anyone what so ever made Ame feel worse about his crush on the Uchiha, more-so than if Sasuke had said he liked the attention from the girls. That of course wouldn't stop the pang of jealousy that shot through Ame every time a girl fawned over Sasuke either, but at least then he would know Sasuke's feelings. But no matter what Ame was feeling, he would have to continue ignoring this jealousy. Girls would continue to fawn over Sasuke, and there was nothing Ame could do about it.
