Y/N thought she had left her past behind. After barely surviving her final mission with A.E.G.I.S (Advanced Enforcement Group for Interspecies Security) she walked away from the life of combat and secrecy, trading it for the quiet comfort of a coffe...

The rest of the morning went by smoothly-aside from the lingering thoughts of AEGIS rattling in Y/N's mind. She knew she hadn't seen the last of that conversation with Shadow. But for now, she had work to focus on.
She busied herself with wiping down the counters, restocking supplies, and making sure the café was running efficiently. Despite the cold outside, business was steady, and she found comfort in the familiar rhythm of work. The scent of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the soft hum of chatter and the clinking of ceramic cups.
Around noon, just as the café was starting to settle into its afternoon lull, the doorbell chimed.
Y/N looked up from the espresso machine, expecting to see a usual customer-maybe an older couple looking for a quiet spot to escape the cold, or a student hoping to get some work done.
Instead, she blinked in surprise.
Standing in the doorway-looking way too excited-were Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
They were not subtle.
Amy, leading the charge, beamed as she waved enthusiastically. "Y/N! Hey!"
Y/N arched a brow, setting down the cloth she had been using. "Hey, guys." She scanned their expressions, instantly suspicious. "What brings you all here?"
Sonic grinned, leaning against the counter. "Oh, you know. Just figured we'd check out the best café in town."
Knuckles scoffed. "You literally just wanted an excuse to come snoop."
Y/N's eyes narrowed slightly. "Snoop?"
Amy, clearly trying to maintain their cover, elbowed Knuckles in the ribs before stepping forward. "Ignore him. We just thought we'd stop by and, you know, get to know you a little better."
Y/N crossed her arms. "Is that so?"
Tails, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke up, adjusting his goggles. "Amy's mentioned you before. We were just curious about the person Shadow's apparently been talking to."
Y/N exhaled through her nose, shaking her head with a small smile. "I knew there was an ulterior motive."
Sonic smirked, propping his elbow on the counter. "What can we say? Shadow's not exactly known for making friends."
Knuckles nodded. "It's kind of a big deal."
Amy shot them both a look before turning her attention back to Y/N. "So, anyway! We actually wanted to invite you to our weekly game night. It's every Sunday."
Y/N blinked. "Game night?"
Knuckles crossed his arms, smirking. "Yeah. We mostly just hang out, play games, and talk. But we figured it'd be... interesting to have you there."
