Jack cried for hours in Matthew's arms. He almost couldn't believe what he saw, but it happened. Kevin killed his parents. He hated Kevin. Hated him so much. However, all these strong emotions drained Jack's energy, and eventually the young boy fell asleep.
Jack's vision was blurry when he opened his eyes, but he could tell he wasn't in the blue void anymore. He was no longer lying on Matthew but now on... grass? How could he be on grass? The scary facility didn't have any grass so he had to be outside. But that made even less sense. The scientists said he and the others couldn't leave Doey, that they were attached to that body now. But feeling his body, Jack knew he was just Jack now. Not Doey.
Did the scientists lie? They were meanies so maybe. While getting up, Jack heard a voice.
"Sweetie..."
It was quite distant and echoey so Jack couldn't tell who the voice belonged too, but just hearable enough so that the word lingered in his ears. Jack looked around, the grass seemed to go on forever, nothing blocking his vision. But no sign of whoever called to him.
"Who said that? Was it you, Matthew? Where are you?" Jack asked.
"Jackie, it's us! Don't you remember?"
Jack saw two figures in the distance. They had wide smiles and were waving. Jack instantly knew who they were once he heard the nickname "Jackie". Only mommy and daddy called him Jackie.
"MOMMY, DADDY!" Jack exclaimed.
Jack ran to them and gave them the biggest hug he could give to their legs. They each wrapped an arm around Jack and hugged him back.
"I thought I'd never see you again..." Jack whimpered, tears of joy coming from his eyes.
Jack's mom picked him up and wiped his tears away.
"Of course not Jackie! We'll always be there for you." Jack's mom said.
"No matter how many meanies try to push us away, we'll always be here for our little boy." Jack's dad assured, patting Jack's head.
Jack giggled, embracing in the warmth of his parents. It didn't matter how much he suffered before because it was all okay now. And it was going to be okay from now on.
"Let's go home now sweetie, we know how long you've been waiting." Jack's mom spoke gently, caressing Jack's back.
"Yeah!" Jack cheered.
Jack's dad and mom began walking a direction, Jack's mom still holding him. Jack looked on as the grass fields slowly left in the distance. Jack hugged his mom as tight as he could but after a little while relaxed his body, simply letting her hold him. Jack closed his eyes with a smile.
And then his mom screamed.
Jack shot his eyes open as he fell on the ground, luckily not hurt, but launched away from his mom. Jack's mom was crying, being held down by a giant red fist. Looking up, Jack saw the thing holding his mom down was nothing short of a demon. Horns, claws, sharp teeth, and a scowling face. A truly terrifying sight for the young boy. This monster... Kevin... he was back. And he was going to hurt mommy.
"MOMMY, NO!" Jack screamed.
Jack tried to run to his mom but before he could reach her another fist smashed into the mom's face, hard enough to splash blood and to throw Jack back again. The fist lifted itself and left nothing but bloody remains. Jack covered his face and sobbed.
"HURT, HURT, HURT!" The evil's voice boomed, every step he took was thunderous.
Jack lifted his head to see if daddy was okay at least, and he had a look of raw fear. Mere moments before Kevin slammed himself into Jack's dad, daddy screaming out before being completely crushed. Now Jack was all alone again, alone with a monster. All Jack could do was curl up into a ball and cry.
And then Jack woke up.
He was still in the room. What's left of his parents was also still there too. Mommy and daddy didn't come back. They never did, they couldn't. Jack went out of control of Doey. Matthew was holding him tightly with concern and fear.
"Jack, Jack! You were crying and screaming in your sleep! Are-"
Jack then clutched onto Matthew and held onto him like his life depended on it. He cried into Matthew's body which only slightly muffled his wails. Matthew put his arms around Jack and hugged him, letting Jack cry on him. Between choked sobs, Jack managed to say:
