I narrowed my eyes. "You knew."
He didn't deny it.
"How long?" I asked.
He hummed, as if considering. "Long enough."
I clenched my jaw. "You could have told me."
His gaze held mine, steady. "Would it have changed anything?"
I didn't answer. Because I wasn't sure.
Dada Jaan studied me for a moment before saying, "You don't like surprises."
"No," I said flatly. "I don't."
"And yet, she surprised you."
I exhaled sharply, looking away. "I don't have time for distractions."
He chuckled, shaking his head. "Ah, my boy. You keep calling her a distraction, but I wonder..." He tilted his head. "Do you even know what she is?"
Something about the way he said it made the air feel heavier.
I frowned. "She's just a student."
Dada Jaan smiled faintly. "Is that what you think?"
I clenched my jaw, irritation creeping in. "If you have something to say, just say it."
He took another sip of chai, unhurried, calm. Then, finally, he said, "Some people come into our lives like echoes from a past we barely remember. But they were always meant to return."
I stilled.
The weight of his words settled between us, thick, unspoken.
I didn't like not knowing. I didn't like this feeling.
