Colton's POV
I stood outside the ruined garden, my fingers twitching at my sides. The scent of dying flowers filled the air, mixing with the lingering traces of Mikhail’s fading scent. It made my chest tighten with frustration. He was slipping away from me. Again.
I clenched my jaw, my nails digging into my palms as I replayed last night in my head—the way he trembled beneath me, the way he sobbed and begged. The way his broken whispers turned into silence. It should have satisfied me. It should have made me feel victorious. But all I felt now was something ugly clawing at my insides.
"He looked at me like I was a monster."
The words rang in my head, taunting me. I scoffed and ran a hand through my disheveled hair, my mind buzzing with irritation. "So what if he did?" I muttered under my breath. "He belongs to me, whether he wants to or not."
A presence approached from behind, and I didn't have to turn around to know who it was. Ivan.
"You've crossed a line, Colton," Ivan said, his voice colder than I'd ever heard it before. "Even for you."
I exhaled sharply, forcing out a bitter laugh. "And what are you going to do about it? Drag him away like some helpless pet? Let him run to you, thinking you can save him?" I turned to face him, my eyes burning with fury. "He. Is. Mine."
Ivan met my gaze without flinching, but I saw the disgust in his eyes. It sent a wave of irritation through me, but I smirked instead. "What, does it bother you? That no matter how much he resists, in the end, he still comes back to me?"
"You're delusional," Ivan shot back. "He’s terrified of you, Colton. You broke him."
I took a step closer, tilting my head slightly. "Good," I whispered darkly. "Maybe now he'll finally stop running."
Ivan's hands clenched at his sides, his body vibrating with restrained anger. "You don’t deserve him. And I swear, I will take him away from you."
Something snapped inside me at those words, and before I could stop myself, I was gripping Ivan by the collar, pulling him close enough that our noses almost touched. My voice was nothing but a low growl.
"Try it," I hissed. "Try and take him from me, and I’ll make sure there’s nothing left of him to take."
I let go, shoving him back as I turned away. My heart pounded in my chest, and my fingers twitched with barely contained aggression. Mikhail thought he could escape me. He thought he had a choice.
He was wrong.
I clenched my fists at my sides, feeling the cold tension rise in my chest at the sound of Rai’s voice. His words were like a thin thread of irritation that I couldn’t shake off, always lingering in the back of my mind, reminding me of the distractions I didn’t need.
I turned to face him, my eyes narrowing slightly as I glanced over his disheveled appearance—his unkempt hair, his loose, silk robe, the way he lounged so carelessly on the couch, waiting for my attention. It was always the same with him: demanding, needy, always trying to fill a space he would never truly occupy.
"What?" I snapped, my voice colder than I intended.
Rai’s lips curled into a smug, almost exaggerated pout, as though he believed he could melt any frustration away with just a smile. His eyes glinted with something else—something possessive. "Come here, darling," he said, his tone dripping with a mix of annoyance and flirtation. "You're always so focused on that lowly omega, but you’ve forgotten about me. About us."
