Hawks leaned back on his plush sofa, his wings sprawled lazily behind him, a grin stretching across his face. His apartment was dimly lit, the only light coming from the flickering screen before him. The scene of Izuku standing amidst the wreckage, laughing like a maniac, replayed on a loop.
He took another sip from his glass, the amber liquid burning pleasantly down his throat. "Kid... you were supposed to be the hero," he muttered, his tone laced with disbelief and amusement.
He ran a hand through his hair, golden eyes wide with awe as he watched Izuku's unhinged laughter echo across the battlefield. "Man... I never saw that coming."
Hawks grabbed the remote, rewinding the footage to the moment Izuku threw the grenade. The way his expression had shifted from shock to pure, unfiltered glee... It was chilling. Captivating.
He shuddered, a mixture of admiration and worry swirling in his chest. "You played the villain better than I ever could've imagined."
He took another long sip, his wings fluttering uneasily. "And I didn't even plan for you to be one."
Hawks had handed out the roles randomly, expecting Izuku to rally Class 1-A, to be the underdog hero fighting against all odds. But instead...
"You became their worst nightmare." His voice was barely a whisper, filled with awe.
Hawks leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees as he watched the screen flicker to the defeated faces of Class 1-A. Every last one of them... utterly broken by Izuku's mind games.
"You shattered them, kid. Broke them from the inside out."
The way Midoriya had turned them against each other, planting seeds of doubt and fear... It was brilliant. Ruthless, cunning, and horrifyingly effective.
Hawks felt a chill run down his spine. "Psychological warfare at its finest... and you did it without a Quirk."
He let out a low whistle, shaking his head in disbelief. "What the hell did I unleash?"
His wings rustled, feathers shivering. He hadn't expected this. No one had.
Izuku was supposed to be the symbol of hope, the one who united his classmates, who inspired them to keep fighting.
But instead...
"You became the villain."
Hawks took another sip, his gaze fixed on the screen. The scene shifted to Tokoyami's defeat, Dark Shadow refusing to fight. The sheer despair on Tokoyami's face... it was heartbreaking.
"You even broke his spirit," Hawks muttered, his fingers tightening around his glass. "What did you say to him?"
He could only imagine the words, the manipulations that had shattered Tokoyami's resolve. The boy had worshiped him, revered him... and Izuku had turned that against him.
Hawks' eyes narrowed, his jaw clenching. "You didn't just beat them. You destroyed them."
He shivered, his wings fluttering in agitation. A part of him wanted to be angry, to feel protective of the kids he'd watched grow into heroes. But another part...
Another part couldn't help but be amazed.
"Kid... you're terrifying," Hawks whispered, his lips curling into a grin. "And brilliant."
He took another sip, letting the warmth spread through him. Izuku had played his role perfectly, even though he wasn't supposed to be the villain. He had taken the narrative Hawks had crafted and twisted it into something darker, more chaotic.
"You took my story and made it your own." Hawks' eyes gleamed with admiration. "You're more unpredictable than I thought."
His wings fluttered, a shiver of excitement running through him. He hadn't been this thrilled in ages. Not since he first joined the Hero Commission. The rush of adrenaline, the unpredictable chaos... It was exhilarating.
He watched as Izuku took his final bow, taunting the cameras, thanking him for the opportunity. Hawks let out a breathless laugh. "You even thanked me... for turning you into a monster."
He ran a hand down his face, his grin never faltering. "I didn't even mean to."
The boy was supposed to be the hero. He was supposed to inspire hope, to fight against overwhelming odds. But instead, he had become the very thing they feared.
"Guess I underestimated you," Hawks murmured, his eyes glued to the screen. "You're not just a hero... you're something much more dangerous."
His wings trembled, his heart racing. Izuku wasn't just playing the villain. He was embodying it, becoming it. And he was so damn good at it.
Hawks took a long, slow breath. "You were never meant to be the villain... but damn, you're perfect at it."
He stood up, his wings stretching behind him, feathers rustling. He wandered over to the large window overlooking the city, the lights twinkling below. It was peaceful, serene—so starkly different from the chaos he'd just witnessed.
"You're going to be a legend, kid." Hawks' voice was soft, almost reverent. "Whether as a hero or a villain... you'll be unforgettable."
He set his glass down, his wings fluttering with anticipation. He couldn't wait to see the fallout. The questions, the fear, the whispers... They were going to eat this up.
The Hero Commission was going to lose their minds. UA was going to question everything they thought they knew.
And Izuku? He was going to walk back into class, smile that innocent smile, and pretend like nothing happened.
Hawks' eyes gleamed. "You're dangerous, Midoriya."
He laughed, the sound echoing through the empty room. "And brilliant."
He grabbed his phone, quickly typing out a message. It was short, simple, and tinged with concern and pride.
Hawks: You weren't supposed to be the villain, but damn, kid... you stole the show. Let's talk soon.
He hit send, his wings fluttering with unease and excitement. He needed to understand what went through Midoriya's mind, why he chose this path. And maybe... just maybe... he needed to know if Izuku could ever go back to being a hero.
Hawks glanced back at the screen, his grin faltering for the first time. "You weren't supposed to be the villain..."
His eyes narrowed, his wings folding tightly behind him. "So why did you play the part so perfectly?"
He stood there, staring at the flickering screen, his heart pounding. He didn't have the answer... but he was going to find out.
And he could only hope that the boy he admired hadn't lost himself to the role he was never meant to play.
