i'm sorry for all the notifications but us writers work hard on these chapters. i know i ask this a lot, but i really don't like ghost readers because i work super hard on these chapters so when i see views going up but votes are not... its hard for my motivation!

SEASON 1 EPISODE 5: PART ONE

Paloma sat rigidly at her desk, the edge of her chair pressing into her spine, trying to force herself into the smallest space possible. Her arms were crossed tightly over her chest, a clear signal that she was closed off to anyone and everyone around her. The sounds of the classroom seemed distant, muffled by the rage brewing inside her. Her eyes remained fixed on the front of the room, though nothing about the lesson seemed to matter to her. The anger at Kitty-betrayal, really-still simmered beneath her skin. Every time she thought of how Kitty had just left her hanging, her chest tightened with frustration. Kitty had promised to be there for her. But then... she wasn't.

Kitty, on the other hand, kept stealing glances at Paloma, as though hoping for some acknowledgment, some sign that the tension between them could break. But Paloma refused. She couldn't look at Kitty-not yet. Not when the hurt from her actions still felt so fresh, so raw. Every time Kitty's eyes lingered on her, Paloma felt like she was on the verge of snapping.

Principal Lim's voice cut through the thick air of silence, snapping Paloma back to the present. She didn't look at him, but his words flowed over her anyway.

"Chuseok is the Korean celebration of the good harvest," he began, his tone smooth, almost reverent. "It's a time to thank our ancestors for bringing us prosperity and to pay respect to those we have lost. We do that by going home. It is a very special holiday in our house, because family is the most precious thing in the world. And we do not take it for granted. Enjoy your break, everyone. Have a good Chuseok."

Paloma barely heard the last part. Her mind was too full of thoughts of her-Kitty. She was still angry, and the mention of family made it worse. Family was supposed to mean something, but Kitty had turned that into a hollow promise. It felt like nothing mattered anymore.

The students murmured a polite response, some offering "thank you" in English, some in Korean. But Paloma didn't respond. She couldn't. She was stuck in her own world, wrapped up in the bitterness and frustration of it all.

Kitty, clearly eager to break the silence, leaned over toward Paloma, her voice soft but persistent. "My grandparents told me about Chuseok, but I've never had one. It's like Korean Thanksgiving, right?"
