The dorm room was quiet-too quiet for Paloma's liking.
Outside, the soft hum of campus life filtered through the cracked window: the faint chatter of students, the occasional chirp of a scooter zipping past, and the steady rhythm of spring rain tapping against the glass. But inside, boredom clung to the air like a fog.
Paloma lay sprawled across her bed, one leg dangling off the side, the other propped up against the wall. Her phone rested on her chest, playing a video she had already watched three times. Kitty, across the room on her own bed, sat cross-legged with a book in her lap-though judging by her glazed-over expression, she hadn't turned a page in twenty minutes.
"I'm dying," Paloma muttered dramatically, tossing her phone aside. "This school is trying to kill me with boredom."
Kitty smirked without looking up. "You just got here like, what? Three weeks ago?"
"Exactly. That's three weeks too long without anything exciting happening."
Kitty turned a page, finally, but glanced over. "You snuck into a restricted faculty area on day two."
"That was mildly exciting," Paloma said, waving her hand. "I need adrenaline. I need something that actually gets my heart rate up."
Kitty tilted her head, tapping her lip with a finger. "You know... you're really good at running."
Paloma blinked. "What?"
"I mean, when we were racing to get to class the other day? You literally smoked me. And you didn't even break a sweat."
Paloma shrugged, sitting up. "I run a lot back home. Helps me think."
"You should join the track team," Kitty said, leaning forward now, her eyes brightening like she had just discovered gold.
