"Well," she said, standing up abruptly, "this has been fun."
Robby looked up, eyebrows slightly raised. "That's it?"

LaRusso spoke, "It's time for us to name our male and female captain."
Skye's mood shifted immediately. It felt so real now. She wondered if he really wasn't going to give her a chance.
"The decision will be completely unbiased. In two days, Sam will face Tory for the female captain spot. Robby and Miguel will fight for the male captain."
Skye felt like she was going to throw up. They can't be serious. This was her chance too.
She would have walked out if not for Robby. He got his opportunity, and she wanted to congratulate him, wanted to be happy for him.
But all she could feel was disappointment.
After a while she left the dojo.
Skye sat on the hood of her car, staring at the empty road ahead. She had been driving aimlessly for the past half hour, trying to process what just happened.
She knew it was coming, knew Mr. LaRusso wasn't going to give her a chance. But actually hearing it? It was like a punch to the gut.
Her phone buzzed.
Tory: Where are you?
Without thinking too much, Skye sent her location. Less than ten minutes later, Tory's car pulled up next to hers.
Tory got out, arms crossed. "I figured you'd run off."
Skye scoffed, shaking her head. "Can you blame me?"
Tory leaned against the hood beside her. "So they really went through with it?"
"Yup." Skye exhaled sharply.
Tory clenched her jaw. "That's total bullshit."
Skye looked down at her hands, picking at the fabric of her hoodie. "I get that I'm injured, but it still sucks. Like... I fought just as hard as everyone else. This was supposed to be my shot, too."
Tory nodded, her voice laced with frustration. "They're underestimating you. And trust me, that's a mistake." Tory grinned. " So, we meet up tomorrow. We'll train, and we'll figure out how to make them see what a mistake they're making."
Skye let a small smirk creep onto her lips. "You're really on my side, huh?"
Tory nudged her. "For sure."

Skye unlocked the door to their apartment, stepping inside with a deep sigh. She barely had time to shut it before Robby was in front of her, concern written all over his face.
"Where the hell did you go?" he asked, his voice softer than his words. "You just took off—I looked everywhere for you."
"I just needed to clear my head," Skye mumbled, dropping her bag by the door.
