Kai Kekoa- Manele, Hawaii

Kai was in the ocean along with his sister while he moved his hand through the calm ocean water during the peaceful spring evening. His whole body was relaxed while he listened to the sound of the ocean and bobbed with each wave that went under them.
His sister, Lani, was on a surfboard beside him, and like him, she bobbed up and down with each wave, her hair blowing with a wind that was not blowing through them.
The twins were grave and nervous because they could feel something in the air that meant change, and they had no idea if it was going to be either good or bad but knew that they would be there together.
His sister sighed and moved a hand through her hair before she cleared her throat and shifted on her surfboard. "Should we go back to the shore, Kai?" his sister asked while she looked towards the shore and then to him with a small frown on her face and furrowed brows. "You know that we can't stay out here for long."
Kai rolled his eyes and pressed his lips into a thin line. "It's only seven in the evening, Lani," he said and shook his head. "We don't have anything to do tomorrow. We can stay out for as long as we need."
Lani bit back a small snort and rolled her eyes. "I know," she said softly, "but there is something that's going to happen to us... Can't you feel it?" She looked at her twin brother with a small frown, and Kai hesitated before he slowly nodded, biting back a tired sigh.
"I know," he said honestly before he cleared his throat while he shifted on his surfboard. "I can feel it." He didn't want to go back to the shore because he had a feeling that whatever was going to happen was already there, waiting for them to come back to shore.
"It's probably already there; isn't it?" she asked, and Kai bit back a snort while he slowly nodded and pressed his lips into a thin line. She licked her lips and cleared her throat, moving a hand through her surfboard. "It could help," she said, hesitantly, and he could tell that there was a small bit of hope in her voice.
It could help them learn about who they were and why they had these strange powers...
Kai sighed before he nodded and relented. "Ok," he said, and his sister looked at him with wide eyes filled with hope and happiness.
"Ok?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, and he scowled and rolled his eyes. "Are you sure ok?"
"Yes," he replied and nodded. "I am sure that it is ok. We can go see what is going on and why we have these powers. Like you said, someone or something could already be there waiting for us."
Lani narrowed her eyes and scowled while she studied him. "But you don't trust it," she said, and Kai bit back a small chuckle while he nodded. "Kai," she warned when he didn't answer her question right off the bat. "Answer the question or the statement that I made."
Kai sighed and moved a hand through his hair while he slowly nodded. "I do not," he confirmed before he cleared his throat and shifted on his surfboard. "However, I don't think it would be as dangerous as not knowing how to control our powers."
His sister scoffed and rolled her eyes while she pursed her lips in annoyance. "Says you, Kai," she said before she created a small tornado in her hands. "I mean, I am sure I am able to control my powers well enough even without help."
Kai slowly blinked before he gave her a pointed look, and his sister pursed her lips in annoyance because his meaning was clear:
You still have problems controlling your powers, too...
Lani bit back a small groan and rolled her eyes. She sighed and shook her head while she moved her hand through her hair and across her face. "I am not as bad as having problems unlike you, Kai," she said, "especially when you are angry."
Kai sighed before he slowly nodded and pursed his lips in annoyance. "I know," he said and moved a hand through the water. "I am getting better, though, which is a good thing."
Lani bit back a small chuckle and nodded. "We both are," she said softly. She gestured to the shore before she cleared her throat and grew serious. "So are we going to go and see what life has in store for us?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper while she looked at him.
Kai could hear the excitement in his sister's voice, and there was no doubt that he was excited, too. He, too, wanted to see what was in store for him, but he didn't want his little sister to get hurt, no matter how special they were.
"Please?" she asked. "You can't deny the fact that it is time for us to leave, no matter how much you don't like it." She paused and shook her head. "We can't keep hiding like this, Kai. Whoever they are needs us for whatever reason."
"And what if it's a trap?" he asked and raised an eyebrow. "What then?"
"Then we unset it," she replied and shrugged, biting back a small grimace, "and if something bad happens, then we fight. We are strong fighters. There's no doubt about that, and if you have my back, then I'll have yours."
Kai rolled his eyes and scowled, and she grinned amused. "I always have your back, Lani," he said. "You're my sister, so I don't know why you are saying that."
She shrugged and looked, biting back an amused grin. "Well, it's because you are worried about this being a trap or not," she replied. "We both know what we can do and what we can accomplish. We've conquered so much together already, so this should be a walk in the park."
Kai pressed his lips into a thin line before he shook his head and sighed, relenting. He knew what she said was true, but that still didn't stop the nervousness that he felt. "Ok," he said and slowly nodded.
"Ok?" she asked and raised an eyebrow while she cocked her head and studied him. Hope filled her eyes, and he could tell that she was excited.
"We can go see what is going to happen. However, let me do all of the talking, please. I don't want your loud mouth to get us in trouble."
Lani stared at him with wide eyes and an opened mouth, and he grinned, amused while he tucked his head closer to his chest. "That's rude," she said, and he shrugged, biting back a small smirk. She scowled and narrowed her eyes. "Why would I be the one to cause problems?"
"Because you have the habit of doing it, Lani," he said with a small hum in his voice, biting back a small chuckle. He cleared his throat and shifted on his surfboard, growing serious. "But come on, I think we've had them waiting long enough. Let's go see what this new future holds for us."
"Maybe it won't be as bad as you think," Lani said while she looked at him and smiled. "Maybe we get to learn new things and control ourselves and our powers better. Maybe we could be superheroes."
He bit back a small chuckle and nodded, even though he had no idea if they would be superheroes or not. "Maybe," he said. He splashed his sister in the face, and she gasped and splashed him back. "Race you back!" he exclaimed before he used his powers to push her off her board and started to swim back to shore.
"Loser!" his sister exclaimed in shock and surprise, and he couldn't help but laugh, amused. "Shame on you!"
Kai didn't respond while he made his way back to shore, praying that whatever would happen wouldn't cause them any harm because he didn't know what he would do if he lost his sister.
If only they could see what the future holds and know if they made the right choice before they even made this stupid choice...
