Chilchuck, Senshi, and Ruval were already up and about, a candlelight illuminating the small area of the tower they were resting in. Marcille and Laios were still asleep, though, that wouldn't be the case for long.

The elf suddenly shot up out of bed, waking up with a minor yell, "I slept too long!"

Then her attention went to Laios, who was still unconscious. Throughout the night, Marcille had cast healing spells every few hours to help the tallman rest and recover, though, in this instance, it seemed she had forgotten to do so.

She rested her ear over his chest plate, trying to listen for the thump, thump of his heart. But she heard nothing. She shuddered, worried, "I don't hear anything... there's no heartbeat."

"It's 'cause you're listening through his armor," Chilchuck reprimanded her, "Looks like he finally managed to fall asleep."

The half-foot straightened out some of the clothes that were drying on the rope while Senshi cleaned and sharpened his knife, "I suppose that means his food poisoning settled down."

"Oh, Laios. What a troublemaker," Marcille sat down, opening her book.

"Let's let him sleep a bit longer. He was tossing and turning all through the night."

"I wonder about this dungeon," She flipped through the pages after listening to Chilchuck. "...does it already know how many monsters need to be defeated on each floor? Killing monsters in here just stabilizes the ecosystem. But if we don't do it, the village will get completely overrun by them."

"And when the village does get overwhelmed, it recruits adventurers to help. Hmm. Pretty clever system."

"What are you talking about?" The half-foot wondered.

"About how dungeons are made, isn't it obvious?"

"It was a while ago, but I studied it back when I was in school. It's a lot more complex than you'd think."

- 13 Years Ago: Magic School -

To go to magic school was considered a pretty big deal, especially if you graduated from said place. Many tallmen, dwarves, and gnomes alike would spend their time there, researching how to properly train and learn the ins and outs of the magic contained in the dungeon, as well as their composition.

However, it was extraordinarily rare for an elf to show up, much less attend the school wholeheartedly. That's where Marcille breaks the mold. Many students in the class shared a mixture of excitement and curiosity when they heard that an elf of high prestige would be joining them.

"Hey, isn't that Marcille? You know, from the graduate course?"

Their overlapping voices were all full of the same wonder and enthusiasm. She was sitting in one of the chairs against the wall, weaving her staff, Ambrosia. Though, it wasn't fully developed yet. Her hair was much different, with a row of short bangs lining her forehead while the remainder of her hair was organized in braids that draped over her shoulders.

"She was the school's very first genius!"

"Yeah. I heard she was the teacher's assistant the first day."

"And I heard they've decided that she's going to be a court magician."

The occupation of court magician was an honorable one, though it varied depending on the race. Clearly, however, it appeared to them that she was royalty, if not a soon-to-be royal in some capacity because of her dedication.
