The Wrong Identity

I kept glancing at my phone as the time slowly ticked away. Just as Amalia was about to say something my phone started ringing and a picture of Thea was displayed on the phone.

I answer it immediately knowing she would have had to pick up Paige. "Aofie, where are you?" she asked, i was mildly aware that Claire and Amalia could hear Thea through the phone due to the deafening silence in the living room.

"long story will tell you later" i mutter not wanting to explain the whole situation while these strangers are watching and listening to me.

"I picked up Paige for you, but i cant take her to my house because my parents are about to come home" she said telling me now making this situation even bigger.

"fuck.. erm could you take her to the park, the one near the hotdog stall" i ask hoping she could, I honestly had no idea what i was going to do, now that i was stuck waiting for a Detective to come speak to me.

"Yeah sure but you know my parents.. Im not allowed to stay out after 5 during the week" Thea announced guiltily.

"Its fine ill figure something out.. Thank you" i said before my phone started beeping indicating it was running out of credit.

"I've got to go I'm running out of credit just wait at the park for me ill be there.. eventually" i sigh ignoring Claire and Amalias glances.

"Okay see you soon, bye" she said ending the call. I turn my phone off saving the battery just incase and lean back on the couch with my arms crossed.

it was silent for a minute before Amalia turned to face me "Whos Paige?" she asks curiously. I suddenly started feeling very defensive at the thought of my little sister.

"Is she your dog?" Amalia guessed after i didnt reply. I laugh slightly at the thought before shaking my head.

"then who is she?" Amalia asked again making me sigh. I started to pick at my nails before deciding if there was even a point in keeping Paige out of this. Who knows they may pity me and let me leave.

"shes my little sister, which thanks to you guys i wasnt able to pick up from school" i finally say causing Claires expression to change dramatically from curious to shocked.

"you have a little sister?" Claire asks her tone laced with surprise still. I was confused to why this was such a shocking detail.

"yeah" I reply nodding unsure what else i could say

"How old is she?" Amalia questions which Claire is now watching me for my response.

"she will be 6 years old on December 27th" i tell them suddenly feeling very anxious at the thought of Paige not being with me right now. I trusted Thea with Paige but i was rarely away from her for more than the hours within a school day.

"In all seriousness i do need to leave before 5 because my friend cant watch her after then" i tell them firmly, i was no longer begging I was telling them, no way in hell would i leave Paige alone in our house without putting up one hell of a fight.

"Im not going to lie to you i don't know if Dectective Lawrence will be done by then, and there's procedures which even I'm not aware of.." claire reveals i could feel my face go bright red with frustration but before i was even able to argue Claire speaks again.

"Amalia could you pick Paige up and bring her back here?" Claire compromised, I hesitated but didnt argue. Id much rather have Paige here with me than being alone at home.

"yeah sure I use to go to that park all the time its only 10 minutes away" she said standing up and grabbing a set of car keys that were hung up on a car key holder.
