The scorching sun beat down on Addison as the other cheerleaders tried, and failed, to do the triple hip-hop double tuck Lindy she had just demonstrated.
"Stop! I'm tired of seeing you broccoli haired freaks mess up! You'll never be as cheer-tastic as me, and it really shows." Bucky shouted from his lawn chair. He was relaxing in the shade of an umbrella being held up by the shrimp mascot, a green umbrella in his glass of pink fizzy soda. The Aceys were standing behind him, gossiping about something.
Addison groaned. Practice was not going well today. They only had today left of cheer camp, and they had a lot to improve on.
"All right! Gather around!"
Bucky stood and stretched as they all walked over to him. The shrimp mascot followed him, the umbrella staying above his head. "Zombies, this is obviously your first cheer camp. Now, I'm not anti-change, I'm just...pro-keeping things the way they are, because you don't mess," Bucky waved his hands in front of his face and grinned, "with success." He laughed. "Today the veterans, led by the Aceys, and the newbies, led by Addison and Bree, will compete for the Cheer Camp Cup to see who is more cheertastic! The veterans have always won the Cheer Camp Cup, right Aceys?" The Aceys, Bucky's stuck-up second in commands who all adopted names ending in their group name, grinned and nodded in unison. "Right!" They all said.
Bucky threw a neon green Z jersey at Addison and Bree. "You two will be leading the newbies on the Z-Team." With no time to spare, he did a triple twisted tuck chili splat cake backwards onto the podium and lifted up the trophy.
"Who wants this?!" The crowd cheered in response. "Go earn it!"
The Z-Team gathered around Addison, their neon green jerseys contrasting the A-team's pretty pink ones. Lacey passed by them, Stacey and Jacey busy handing out shirts still. "Good luck, snowball. You'll need it with that team." They looked disgusted at the sight of the zombies. Addison rolled her eyes at the never ending nickname. Her hair, still white, still well-conditioned, and still drawing fire from the Aceys, was old news. The whole town of Seabrook, where fitting in was the norm, had been stunned that the perfect daughter of the mayor and sheriff had been so different from the rest of them. Addison snapped out of the past year, realizing her team was waiting on her. "Alright guys, we got this!" She grinned at their nervous and eager faces, ready to win.
The Z-Team went on stage and gathered around Addison, taking their places to begin swishing their Pom-poms around her face. Addison shared a look with Bree, both of them realizing that a musical number was about to overtake them all. They felt the music wash over them, their bones itching to move and dance.

"We're back here on the scene and everyone's together!" Two girls on both sides of Addison were lifted into the air. "With zombies on the team it's better than ever, better than ever!"
Addison saw Bucky roll his eyes. "Those moves won't get the gold," he scoffed.
"Green hair is so whatever," the Aceys chimed in.
The A-Team got on the stage. "Well, you'll never break the mold 'cause we're better than ever, better than ever!" Addison could feel that her team was getting peppy, and she felt that they could prove Bucky wrong and win.
