Chapter 5: Unspoken Tensions

I calmly and slowly walked in their direction. My eyes never break the eye contact with Horikita, who looked shocked seeing me in the room.

Ayanokoji was... Well, Ayanokoji. Still expressionless as ever.

"Careful with your words, Horikita. I understand where you're coming from but you need to be more considerate of other's feelings, they're not the same as you are. Don't take this as an offense, I'm merely stating something that I observed." I said calmly.

I walked past them but Horikita stopped me.

"Maybe you're right but I don't need some freeloaders who will hold us back." Horikita looked up at me sternly while gripping my wrist.

"Stubborn as ever but I can't deny you have a point. But I'm telling you, you should lower yourself a bit, if you know what I mean" I simply said, hoping that I wouldn't make Horikita as my enemy because that would be a great disaster!

Horikita didn't say anything and let go of my wrist, stood up and walked away, leaving me with Ayanokoji.

"Sometimes, I wonder how you deal with people Ayanokoji" I started, attempting to have a conversation.

"I just deal with them, I guess" Ayanokoji replied.

"Say, why don't we study? You look smart even if you don't express it" I said nonchalantly, making Ayanokoji raise a brow.

"If you say so, but I'm just average" Ayanokoji responded.

'Bro lied. Again. But other than that, I'm making progress to make Ayanokoji my friend or at least an ally but I know that won't be easy and is nearly impossible due to his mindset... Honestly, I don't even know my purpose here anymore...'

"Are we gonna study or not?" Ayanokoji spoke again.

"Let's start then" I said, taking a seat beside him.

After studying, I realized that it's getting late, so I decided to talk about it.

"It's getting late, we should probably go to our dorms and rest, it's been a long day." I suggested.

"We should." He simply answered.

But then, I realized something... Isn't this the time where Ayanokoji saved Horikita from her brother?

I mentally panicked, not knowing what to do but my face remained with a poker face, that I've been practicing my entire life.

"Nevermind that, let's go buy at the vending machine outside, I never tried it and we need something to cool us off from that studying we did. Like a reward, kinda thing?" I started yapping.
But Ayanokoji kept that poker face that he has.

"Okay." He simply complied.

We finally managed to go to that vending machine. I let out a sigh of relief and gestured for Ayanokoji to be quiet. He simply complied without any disagreement but still confused about it.

We quietly peeked and there we saw Horikita and his brother fighting or rather conversing with each other.

"Suzune, I didn't expect you to follow me here." Manabu said.

"Brother... I'm not the failure I was back then. I came here to catch up with you" Suzune declared.

"Catch up? You still haven't even realized your own shortcomings. You were a fool to choose this school." Manabu answered.

"I'll reach class A soon! When I do..." Horikita reasoned but just got cut off by Manabu

"Impossible." Manabu simply stated.
