Chapter 5: Unspoken Tensions

Start from the beginning

"I will... make it there." Horikita weakly stated.

"What an unreasonable sister you are." Manabu said, you can hear a tinge of irritation in his voice.

"You might be wondering who that is... if it isn't any more obvious, it's her older brother; Manabu Horikita, the president of the student council" I whispered, so that only Ayanokoji can hear.

"The president of the student council?" Ayanokoji whispered, repeating my words.

Suddenly, Manabu pushed Horikita to the wall, one of her hands pinned above her head.

"My little sister is assigned to class D... And I'm the one who bears the shame of it. Leave this school right now." Manabu commanded.

"Brother... I..." Horikita started but just got cut off again.

"You have neither the right nor the ability for something higher. You must learn..." Manabu raised his hand, ready to hit Horikita.

Right when Manabu was about to hit Horikita, I gestured for Ayanokoji to save her.

Thankfully, Ayanokoji came right on time and stopped Mnabu.

"A-ayanokoji?" Horikita stuttered, still shocked by his sudden appearance.

"You were really going to do it, weren't you? Let her go." Ayanokoji simply said.

"Stop it, Ayanokoji" Horikita weakly said Ayanokoji. So he did, Ayanokoji lets go of Manabu.

But then, Manabu struck for Ayanokoji but he was too fast to even lay a hand and Ayanokoji even blocked his attack.

"Nice move. Do you practice something?" Manabu said, a little impressed by his fast reflexes.

"Piano and calligraphy." Ayanokoji answered.

'Sa lahat ng pweding sabihin piano at calligraphy pa talaga, Ayanokoji?' (Of all things you could've said you chose piano and calligraphy? Really Ayanokoji?)

"Oh that reminds me... I heard there was a new student who got 50s in every subject on his entrance exam. You got 50 for the quiz the other day. 50 exactly half of 100. Was that intentional?" Manabu eyed Ayanokoji suspiciously.

"Coincidences can be scary, right?" Ayanokoji just stated.

"You're a unique man, I see... Suzune, I'm genuinely surprised to see you've made a friend" Manabu turned to Horikita.

"He's... not my friend. He's just my classmate." Horikita denied.

"As usual, you've mistaken isolation for independence, Suzune." Manabu said.

'Well, what he said has a point though. Based on Law 18 on the hook "48 Laws of Power," which is "Do not Build Fortresses to Protect Yourself - Isolation is Dangerous;" it is stated to never isolate yourself because it cuts off the information you need which you can use when the real danger arises... So, yeah...'

"If you want to ascend to a higher class, struggle with everything you have." Manabu said while walking away.

After witnessing all the drama, I sneaked away hiding from Horikita's view. But Ayanokoji can tell I was still there.

They got some of the canned soda. Horikita sat on the bench while Ayanokoji leaned on the wall and started drinking the soda, as did Horikita.

"I guess you saw my awkward side." Horikita started.

"Actually, I was glad to see what a normal girl you could b-" Ayanokoji answered but cut himself off when he noticed Horikita's glare.

"Nothing, ma'am" Ayanokoji said, shutting his mouth off.

"You're incredible" Horikita stated.

"Yeah, I used to do piano and tea ceremonies" Ayanokoji answered.

'Here we go again...'

"You said it was calligraphy" Horikita corrected.

"I did calligraphy too" Ayanokoji answered.

"Did you really rig your scores on the entrance exam?" Horikita can't help but ask, out of curiosity.

'If he's telling the truth that would be a "yes" '

"I told you, it was just a coincidence" Ayanokoji said.

'You never failed to keep me entertained with that attitude of yours, Ayanokoji'

"I don't understand at all." Horikita said confused.

"Are you done with the study group?" Ayanokoji changed the topic.

"Yes, I've determined these failures to be a waste of time. It doesn't do me any good." Horikita answered.

"They'll be expelled." Ayanokoji reasoned.

"I don't care what happens to anyone else. In contrast, those who remain will be the better students. Being expelled will make it easier for our class to rise. That's all I wish" Horikita said.

"Are you sure that it isn't the wrong way of thinking? Your shortcoming is that you assume others will hold you back and stay away from them. Couldn't that philosophy of looking down on others, what got you into class D in the first place?" Ayanokoji asked or more like stated.

"I..." Horikita started but nothing came out and just walked away quietly.

After a moment of silence, Ayanokoji spoke. "Come out, now."

I came out of my hiding spot.

"Took you long enough. Guess I was right." I teased, tossing him another soda drink. Ayanokoji caught it effortlessly.

"I already drank this" Ayanokoji said.

"Take it as an extra" I said, leaning on the wall next to him.

"How did you know that will happen?" Ayanokoji asked, suspicious of me.

"Uhhh... My gut is telling me to and so, I did" I simply reasoned but it isn't enough to satisfy Ayanokoji and got more suspicious of me.

"We always encounter each other and you seem to know what will happen, isn't that suspicious? I still haven't forgotten that day I caught you stalking me, you know?" Ayanokoji said.

"Just keep your mouth shut, will ya? And it wasn't stalking, it was a coincidence!" I said, playfully rolling my eyes.

"I guess..." Ayanokoji simply stated.

'Wasn't that easy? I bet he's going to pull strings against this but just letting out a calm façade'

"It's late, so I should go. Have a pleasant night ahead, Ayanokoji." I said as I walked away.

"You too." He also started walking away.

A/N: I'm trying to make my Ayanokoji accurate but it's so hard. Anyways, here's another chapter for y'all. If you don't realize we're still in episode 2 of the anime in this chapter, the next chapter is the start of episode 3. Any suggestions so I can improve?
