Before I could respond, he straightened up, giving me a knowing look that left me a little breathless. Without another word, he walked away, his steps deliberate and sure, leaving me stunned, caught somewhere between surprise and something else entirely.
I glanced at my phone, realizing the time had flown by. It was already getting late, and with classes starting tomorrow, I figured it was best to head back to my dorm. I couldn't believe I'd been at this "party" for nearly two and a half hours—yet it had felt like only ten minutes.
I made my way towards the door that led out of the common room and down the hallway to my dorm. As I pushed it open, I was surprised to find Jane already sitting on my bed, her legs crossed and a grin plastered across her face.
"Hey, didn't expect to see you here. Thought you'd be partying the night away," I said, half-amused.
"Hell no," she shot back, her voice brimming with excitement. "I couldn't wait to hear everything about tonight!" She patted the spot next to her on the bed. "Spill it. Now."
I raised an eyebrow and smirked, knowing full well she was about to lose her mind. "Well, actually, something did happen," I teased, letting the words linger in the air for a moment.
Her eyes widened, and she slapped my arm dramatically. "Don't leave me hanging, V! Tell me everything!"
"I kissed Draco. " I leaned in slightly, grinning. "And I actually really fucking liked it."
Jane froze for a split second, her expression morphing from anticipation to shock. "What?!" she practically screamed, jumping up off the bed. "You kissed him—and you enjoyed it?" She grabbed my shoulders as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "V, this is huge!"
I shrugged, trying to play it cool, but I couldn't help the smile that tugged at my lips. "Yeah, I did, and trust me... he knows what he'd doing."
She blinked at me for a second, then let out a squeal of excitement. "I KNEW something was going on between you two! You've always had that tension, and now it's finally happening!"
I sighed, flopping back onto the bed and trying to keep my expression neutral. "Yeah, but there's more to it than that." I hesitated for a moment, thinking about Draco's words, about Mattheo and everything else that had happened. "It's not exactly what you think, though."
Her eyes narrowed, picking up on my change in tone. "What do you mean? What else happened?"
I ran a hand through my hair, trying to sort out my thoughts. "It's... complicated," I muttered, unsure how to explain. "But it's not just about the kiss. There's all this other stuff going on, and I'm not sure where it's going."
Jane let out a dramatic sigh, collapsing back onto the bed next to me. "It's always complicated with you, isn't it?" She laughed, but I could see the concern behind her teasing. "But listen, I'm just happy for you. Draco's a pain in the ass sometimes, but when he's good, he's really good."
I nodded, the weight of it all starting to settle in. "Yeah... but there's also Mattheo. And I don't know what to make of all this."
Jane raised an eyebrow, her expression suddenly serious. "Mattheo Riddle's a problem, V. You know that, right?"
I bit my lip, knowing she was right. "I know. But right now, I just need to figure out what I want."
She gave me a sympathetic look, nudging me with her elbow. "Well, whatever you decide, you know I've got your back. Always."
I smiled, grateful for her support. "Thanks, Jane. I guess tomorrow's going to be interesting."
She laughed again, lying back on the bed with her arms behind her head. "Interesting? That's an understatement. You're about to make this whole school explode with your drama, girl."
