Emily's POV
As soon as Noah and I stepped into my room, a sense of calm washed over me like a soft, warm blanket. The madness of the world outside faded as I closed the door behind us, sealing us away from all the noise. My mind buzzed with a tangle of thoughts, but I tried to latch onto something simple, like getting ready for breakfast. "Just a calm morning," I whispered to myself, hoping the universe would take the hint.
I approached the closet, which felt like a sanctuary filled with my clothes that I carried for the trip the colours and textures offering comfort. After going through a few options, I finally settled on a summery fit-and-flare dress. The fabric felt weightless, a splash of white adorned with delicate blue patterns that seemed to dance in the light. It had a little slit on the side, adding just the right touch of playful flirtation. Slipping it on, I relished the softness against my skin, a gentle reminder of summer warmth that made me feel light and free.
As I stepped out of the closet, adjusting the dress so it fit just right, I caught sight of Noah. He was lounging on my bed, his relaxed demeanour filling the room with a sense of ease. His playful grin and charming eyes had a way of making everything feel brighter, quickening my heart rate.
"Wow," he said, his voice low and teasing, almost reverent as he looked me up and down. "You look amazing." A wave of warmth washed over me at his compliment, but before I could respond, he moved closer, an devilish glint igniting his gaze.
In an instant, I found myself swept up in the moment, drawn into his magnetic orbit. Noah leaned in, our lips met softly, almost hesitantly at first, but then gained intensity, quickening my pulse. I felt as if I were melting, our bodies fitting together like pieces of a puzzle. His warm minty breath brushed against my skin, and he playfully tugged at a strand of my hair, sending a delightful shiver racing down my spine.
Time seemed to stand still as we kissed, the world around us vanishing. It felt almost magical, as if we were the only two people in existence. When we finally pulled apart, Noah looked at me with that same mischievous spark in his eyes. I noticed the small hickeys he'd left, a playful reminder of our shared moment, reinforcing a connection that felt unexpectedly strong.
A small laugh escaped my lips, blending embarrassment with delight. What had started as a hopeful pursuit of calm had turned into something breath-taking, a blossoming adventure between us that felt bold and thrilling.
After we took a minute to collect ourselves, I shifted gears to head downstairs for breakfast, donning a sense of normalcy. Entering the dining area, though, my heart sank; everyone was seated with downcast expressions, the air thick with tension. I tried not to linger on Lucas's intense gaze it felt like a spotlight, heating my cheeks and making it difficult to breathe.
Breakfast was a quiet affair, the clattering of cutlery the only sound cutting through the silence. I caught bits and pieces of conversation, but it all felt distant, as though I were watching through a glass wall. After the meal, we treaded toward Liam's room, where I knew we had to face the fallout from last night. Just as we reached the door, Lucas pulled me aside, his face shadowed with anger and something deeper.
"What's that on your neck?" he asked, his voice tight. "You let another man touch you?" Hurt flickered in his eyes, and I felt a pang of guilt until I remembered what he had done.
I took a breath, trying to lighten the mood. "And you've claimed another she-wolf," I said playfully, giving him a gentle shrug before stepping into the room. A few minutes later, Noah entered, looking apologetic for getting caught up in something outside.
Inside, the conversation quickly turned heated. Liam, who was on the brink of shifting, radiated anger, ready to explode. In a moment of unpredictability, he surged toward Lucas, but Noah was quick to intervene, grabbing him before he could act on that impulse.
"Liam, please, calm down," I pleaded, trying to defuse the storm brewing between them. "I'm not upset anymore. In fact, I won't be returning to Silver Moon with you guys after this week."
"What do you mean, Emily?" Liam asked, bewildered.
I took a moment to gather my thoughts before speaking. "You see, Liam, Alpha Noah has been incredibly kind and made it possible for me to return with him to his pack. We're chosen mates," I said, the excitement bubbling up as I smiled at Noah.
Liam seemed to soften at that, the anger slowly melting away. "Is this true, Alpha Noah?" he inquired, glancing over at him.
"Yes, it's true," Noah confirmed, a smirk playing on his lips as he wrapped an arm possessively around my waist, pulling me closer. I felt the shift in atmosphere, Lucas simmering with a growl that threatened to escape, but Liam silenced him with a firm promise to handle things with him later when they return to Silver Moon.
After that whirlwind of emotions, Noah and I decided a stroll in the garden would help us unwind. The mid day air was crisp and refreshing, and Noah looked thoughtful, a hint of hesitancy on his features as we walked along the path.
"I need to tell you something important," he began, but he hesitated, searching for the words.
I smiled encouragingly, sensing his struggle. "You can take your time, Noah. We're still getting to know each other," I reassured him, feeling a bond beginning to blossom between us.
Underneath the gentle embrace of the mid-day sun, I could sense something significant was about to unfold, and I couldn't wait to see where this journey would take us.
