AINSLEY

I HADN'T EVER experienced pain like this before. It was deafening and I felt like every fiber of my being was being pulled apart. I was unconscious, yet aware at the same time. It was then that the images started flashing through my mind.

All of my lives with Lux and Saka. All of the different times I've died and the family members that I loved so much and lost. Sometimes, I was born into a rich family, other times poor ones.

I've even been royalty in the past....

The pain wasn't only psychical. It was emotional and psychological. All these lives that I had were gone and I'd never get them back. The siblings I've had throughout the years, the different sets of parents, all of them. Gone. Forever. I felt like my brain was being chipped away at.

If I have to endure any more of this I'll go insane.

CYRUS

THERE WAS A weird feeling I was getting. Something was extremely off and bad. My gut was practically screaming at me to retreat back to Ainsley. But I couldn't. Not when I was so close.

"Looks like the traitor returns."

"Corva." I say as I spin around. She stands there with a smirk on her face, the Phoenix pendent hanging off her neck. She was the only one in the room.

I hadn't ever sent out a mental message myself in my human form, so I didn't really know how to do it, so I just pushed my thoughts really loud.

Corva is the only one in the elites wing right now. I try to telepathically tell everyone.

Okay, we'll all keep an eye out Lux says.

"What brings you back? That little whore that weaseled her way into your head? You need to take off the rose tinted glasses and see the world for how it is." She says as she pulls out a dagger and swirls it in her fingers.

"If you speak of my mate in the way again I'll rip your head off." I growl at her and her smirk only widens.

"Mate, huh? So that's why you turned your back on us. On the guild who gave you purpose in your meaningless life."

"The guild didn't give me purpose. They murdered my family and took pity on me just like they did you. You're the one who needs to take off the rose tinted glasses."

"Does she know?" She asks me.

"Know what?"

"That you killed her birth parents, were supposed to kill her and didn't, and the family she thought was real has always been a lie. How do you think she'll look at you?"

"How do you know about that? I made sure no one found out."

"Oh my dear...you ought to remember who we all are. You don't think that Soleil didn't have someone watch you on that mission? Anyway, you'd think you would learn that the truth always ends up revealing itself. I'm sure Soleil has already told her and if she hasn't, her mind has already been broken."

"What do you mean if she's already told her?"

"Well, the elites mission right now is to make sure you all don't leave...." She trails off "wanna fill in the dots?"

"Soleils at the palace."

"Ding ding!"

"You're so dead," I say as I partially shift, my voice more groveled than usual.

"Just like Viviana?" She laughs a little bit "I know we've always butt heads but now that I have the go ahead to kill you I'm sure I can win. Y'know cuz now I don't have to hold back."

"I could say the same to you." I say and the lunges towards me. Thankfully when I partially shift certain parts of me scale over like my arms, legs, and sides of my neck. It's often pretty beneficial because my dragon hide is thick enough that daggers and swords can't pierce it. It obviously is weaker when I'm partially shifted, but again, it makes it harder for  me to be cut.

When she gets close to me she quickly drops down to the ground and swings the dagger and tries to cut into my stomach, however, at the last second I jump back. Her blade narrowly missed my stomach. She stays crouched on the ground as I slowly circle around her, "I really don't want to do this, Corva. I have more important things to deal with."

"Aw really? I thought that we were all some fucked up family."

"I have a family and it isn't you."

"Now how would Bambi feel about that? I thought you guys had a close bond. Will you be able to slit his throat if you have to?"

"Bambi and I are none of your business. Now let's get this over with." I then attack her. Swiping my claws at her arm, making sure to cut her as deep as possible.

"You bitch!" She spits out— not reacting to the pain at all but still hurling an insult out at me "you ripped one of my favorite shirts."

That's what we were taught. We went through pain training to build up our tolerance and to teach us to keep going till we were dead.

"I intend to end your life so you don't need to worry about your shirt." We traded blows and it was bloody. I typically went about fights differently, but in this instance I had to take a lot of things into consideration. However, I manage to dig my claws into her stomach and pin her against the wall. She coughed and blood came out of her mouth but she smiled. A hint of mischief in her eyes despite the fact that she was definitely going to die when I pulled my hand out "any last words?"

In that moment when I looked into her eyes, I saw a flash of her as a kid. Corva and I weren't particularly close, out of everyone I was closest to Bambi, but at one point she was my family. The guild used to be my home and my entire world.

"Nobody here is gonna get out alive." She croaks out.

"What do you mean?"

"This whole place is rigged to explode. Everyone's gonna die," She didn't look sad about her demise at all. There was almost a relief in her eyes as I ripped my hand out, bringing some of her internal organs out with it.

The instant my hands out, I mentally scream at everyone.

Guys! Get out the place is rigged to explode and Soleil is at the palace with Ainsley.

I quickly transform into my dragon, instantly destroying everything in the general area around me. I may be able to tough out the explosion in this form. The rubble would be a big issue, though. Everyone else now....i didn't know.

What do you mean explode? Tien asks and I can feel the others in my head.

I mean that this place is rigged so everyone here dies. Now get out anyway you can!

Just moments later, a series of explosions go off and my hide burns and pain radiates through my body as rocks and rubble come falling down on me.

I wonder if this is my end.
