AUTHOR POV
Flames climbed hungrily into the night, their crackle an ominous backdrop to the panicked screams echoing through the air. Siddarth's body lay slumped against the ground, unconscious, but his arms clung protectively around Sanvi, as though even in the void of unconsciousness, his soul refused to let her go. Blood trickled steadily from his injured hand, staining them both, but his hold did not waver.
"He's holding on too tight!" a paramedic exclaimed, kneeling beside them with urgency. The woman's voice wavered as she tugged carefully, trying not to hurt either of them. "We need to get her free!"
Another paramedic joined her. "Easy. We can't risk causing more harm," he said, his voice calm but strained as he crouched and assessed the situation.
"Come on, buddy," the first paramedic muttered under her breath as she tried to pry Siddarth's arms loose. Her heart twisted, witnessing his unconscious devotion. He's protecting her even now, she thought. For a fleeting moment, the intensity of it struck her—this wasn't just instinct. It was love, fierce and unyielding.
The second paramedic glanced at her. "We need to move fast; we're losing time."
Gritting her teeth, she finally managed to loosen Siddarth's grip with steady but forceful hands. "I'm sorry," she whispered softly, as though her words might reach through the barrier of his unconsciousness. When they finally separated them, both were immediately placed onto stretchers and rushed to the ambulance.
As the ambulance doors slammed shut, the vehicle roared away, its siren piercing through the thick night air, carrying them toward the desperate hope of survival.
Inside the ambulance, the paramedics worked with practiced efficiency, the harsh fluorescent light illuminating their pale, motionless faces. The driver shouted back, "We're two minutes out—prepare for emergency admission!"
One of the paramedics gently adjusted Sanvi's oxygen mask, glancing at her fragile frame. Hang in there, girl, he thought silently, a knot of unease settling in his stomach. He stole a glance at Siddarth.
As the ambulance sped into the night, its siren slicing through the still air, the paramedics shared a brief glance of determination
Meanwhile
Eshan's knuckles turned white as his grip tightened on the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the taillights of the ambulance ahead. His heart pounded, his thoughts a mess of panic and fear. Hold on, Siddarth. Hold on, Sanvi. Just a little longer. Beside him, Arya pressed a trembling hand to her mouth, her tears falling silently as she watched the ambulance speed through the city streets. Her shoulders shook, and her breath hitched with every sob she tried to stifle.
In the back seat, Kaira clutched her phone tightly, her voice firm but strained as she made the call. " He. Hello ...Aunty, Uncle... it's Kaira. There's been an accident," she said, her voice breaking. She forced herself to stay composed, pushing through the lump in her throat. "Sanvi...She taken to the hospital... Please come quickly." She ended the call with shaky hands, her chest tightening at the thought of delivering such devastating news.
