The fall (chap 1)

Nightmares were a common occurrence for Shadow milk, he would wake up in a cold sweat and heavily breathing his hand clenched on his soul jam. It began a few hundred years when they all first fell to chaos and all was lost while failing his subjects he also was caged inside a tree to hear the insults and threats from the other beasts. Usually when he would sleep this would happen and it just led him to avoid sleeping to hide from nightmares. But this time was different. He was exhausted, hiding away in a small house abandoned by the edge of beast yeast near the ocean. Crumpled in the corner clenching where deep blue jam was seeping through his bodysuit, frilly sleeves and jester collar now drooping and battered. Hair usually held in place by magic was now fully drained leaving it in a state of draping over his crumbling body.

Cracks were formed all over his body, by the time he stepped through the portal Candy apple and Black sapphire were already a lost cause. Candy apple was cracked in half as once shining sugar coated apples were broken on the floor as the crystalized sugar was as sharp as glass. Covered in cuts and bruises her eyes grew cold and lifeless while cradled in Black sapphire's arms. He was hollowed out as a hole was where his heart should be and deep red jam seeped through the once carefully tailored suit he had made himself. Shadow milk could only watch as the only cookies that stayed by his side vanished as quickly as appearing. He knew this would happen eventually as unlike him they were just cookies with a life so short to him it wouldn't be worth living at all. Even so it was too early for them, it wasn't their time, not by choice. Their final words were short yet meaningful with words of regret, comfort and sadness hugging themselves like siblings they pretend to be for many years.

All huddled in a hug Candy apple, gentilly held on Black saphire's lap, was wailing about what she wished to do and what she had done slowing down as the loss of jam became prominent. Eyes became dull and glazed, the once bouncy and beaming young girl was now left lifeless in her loved ones' grasp. Black sapphire was soon after but left with a few words. "When you took us in we had nothing but we then had everything, I will die any minute now and to be honest, death feels like a relief from the pain. Candy and I always looked up to you and still do. That is why you must live on for our sake and take our revenge." He explained with a smile filled with sadness, the expression was one of pain and acceptance. Glossy tears dripped off his face onto the lifeless dough below him as he curled in to be left in a hug for all of time. The sound of whimpers and shaking slowed as his body began to fail, the pool of jam underneath was still as all movement ceased. Arms once gripped around his most precious person left dangling motionless as his eyes darkened, all left were faded tears. Crashing to the floor on his knees, Shadow milk was shaking, mouth agape tears creating a waterfall down his face. The only cookies who cared were now gone from earthbread without the joys of life fully completed and it was all his fault.

Why? Why did you have to take them away? They were so young beamed with life and the pleasure to learn all of what to behold as I did once before. What had they done to deserve this unruly fate? Is this how their short stories end? Is this what you wanted? I thought holy beings were looking down on all to keep them safe. Where was the protection for their fallen souls?

This is a joke.

A stupid lie to all that creak between cracks in truth.

They were too young. Too pure. Too innocent. They should have lived long lives with happy endings.

Not this.

Not this tragedy.

Where was the help from their saints? How would they survive if not given love?

All they had was each other.

What a cruel world we live in.

Crawling to the once vigorous cookies, no. Not cookies, they were so much more than that.

They were his family, his home.

Now holding their delicate corpses, Shadow milk cried for two days straight without breaks grasping all of what was left of his once joy. Shivering from the crying and cold as his clothes were ripped and ruined, he would have to get them replaced but he doesn't have the strength to do any spells at the moment. He had to get up otherwise the dough would just mold and rot into the soil without any proper grave or respect. Struggling to get up, he took one last glance at the silence before him and carried them to the shore. He used to hold them up like this when only young, he still did it with Candy apple sometimes but Black sapphire had always been embarrassed about it although below the mask he treasured the memories more than any jewel. He placed them down on a carefully made raft, their heads cushioned by leaves and flowers found from the meadows. They were blue, it reminded him of all the flower crowns they had made even if he wasn't that good at it, the proud smiles surrounding him as they admired the finished products.

Using what little magic he had left, Shadow milk conjured a candle and lit it to put on the raft while the moon glimmered above. It was strange how even if he felt immense happiness or deep sadness, it still shone down radiating silverlight over all. He pushed the raft out to sea watching as all of what was left disappeared into night. By the time he had decided to get up and look around it had been two weeks since he had fought the ancient. He despised him, his idiotic smile, his blinding glow, his sickeningly sweet personality, he hated it all. It would have to be an eternity before he could face him again in this state. He had to fight.

For them.
