Jungkook sighed, staring out of the window as the city lights blurred past. It had been a month. A month of trying, of carefully crafting each session, of testing Taehyung in every way possible, but he still wasn't sure if he'd made any real progress. Sure, Taehyung had reacted a few times, but was that progress? Or just Taehyung playing along?.

Right now, the three of them were driving to Jimin’s home. Jungkook had decided it was better to keep Taehyung away from his own house for a while, hoping that a change of environment might do something- anything to help. Jimin drove, his fingers tapping lightly against the steering wheel, while Taehyung sat in the back, a lazy grin stretching across his lips. That same unsettling grin.

Jungkook turned his head slightly. "You comfortable back there?"

Taehyung chuckled. "Are you worried about me doc?"

Jungkook didn’t answer that. "Do you like going out? Being outside your house?"

Taehyung leaned against the window, his breath fogging up the glass. "It’s different. Less quiet. More... alive."

Jungkook noted that. Alive. Did he envy it? Or just observe it?

"You ever thought about living somewhere else?"

"Mm," Taehyung hummed, tilting his head. "I like my house. It smells like blood."

Jimin tensed. Jungkook felt his stomach twist.

Silence settled between them before Jungkook exhaled and reached for his phone. Without a word, he scrolled through his playlist, searching for something light. He found an old song, the kind that played in cafés and parks, something warm, something human.

Soft guitar strums filled the car. The melody was light, easy, carrying a warmth Jungkook hoped would reach somewhere inside Taehyung.

Jimin let out a small breath, relieved at the change in atmosphere. But Taehyung?

Taehyung just stared.

The grin was still there, but his eyes were focused on nothing in particular, like he was listening, but not hearing.

Jungkook glanced at him. "You like music?"

Taehyung blinked, slow and deliberate, before his lips curved higher. "I like screams more."

Jimin gripped the wheel tighter.

Jungkook refused to let it get to him. "You ever listen to music as a kid?"

Taehyung’s fingers tapped against the glass absentmindedly. "Maybe. I don’t remember." Then, he chuckled. "No wait. I do. My mother used to sing me lullabies."

Jungkook straightened slightly. That was new.

"What kind?"

Taehyung’s smile stretched, eerie in the dim glow of the streetlights. "The kind you sing before putting something to sleep. Forever."

Jungkook’s fingers clenched around his phone.

The song played on. Light. Happy. Unfitting.

The car rolled to a stop in front of Jimin’s house. The engine shut off, and for a moment, none of them moved.

Jimin was the first to step out, inhaling deeply like he was trying to cleanse himself of whatever unsettling presence had been lingering in the car. Jungkook followed, glancing back at Taehyung, who was still seated, staring at the house with an unreadable expression.

"Come on," Jungkook said.

Taehyung tilted his head before stepping out, his movements slow, deliberate. He stretched his arms above his head, letting out a sigh. "Nice place."
