hi, tiga here!! this is for my other side fans, because the writer's block is bad and I don't have the energy to actually follow a plot line right now, so a scene from Snapstar's kit hood, to maybe see where he went wrong, hints the title <:
~~~
Dreary, small, eyes blink open to urgent screeches. Snapkit fully opens his eyes, eyes darting around the den. Crackkit and Voidkit curl up next to Snapkit. Leafquiver stands in front of the entrance, teeth bared and back arched. A hiss trickles from her jaws, and then a screech of anger.
The she-cat turns back to her kits, eyes still wild with rage and a dot of fear. Voidkit's tiny voice comes from beside Snapkit as he burrows closer into Snapkit's pelt. Snapkit has always been much stronger, much braver, but Voidkit is the smallest, the runt, and, most importantly, Snapkit's little brother. Snapkit wraps his tail around Voidkit's tiny body, a protective gesture that Voidkit's muffled voice hides under. "Mama?"
Leafquiver's gaze doesn't linger on the kit for much longer. "I'm leaving. Stay put or you'll get skinned," the gray tabby's voice lowers, "You guys don't know how Shadowclan fights."
Snapkit's chest pangs with excitement, fear, and determination, each emotion twisting into a need to fight. And why couldn't he? The orange tom's practically an apprentice, a whole four moons, and he's clawed a mouse dead before. Snapkit's pelt pricks with pride.
"I'm coming!" Snapkit says, but Leafquiver leaps into the crowd of screeching and yowling cats. Leafquiver doesn't look back.
"No you're not."
Snapkit rolls his eyes. That's what she thinks.
"Don't!" Crackkit frets, eyes wide, "Mom s-said not to and...A Shadowclan cat can like...tear your bones out with one claw." Voidkit whimpers with a tiny nod. Snapkit rolls his eyes.
"Didn't say you wimps had to come," the orange tom proudly puffs out his chest, "I'm braver then both of you combined!"
"Are not!" Crackkit hisses, "Fine, I'm coming then. I'll shred a Shadowclan cat!" Voidkit sinks deeper into his nest, eyes wide with admiration.
"Come on," Snapkit says to the black kit, softer, "We're not gonna fight, just watch." The lie rolls from Snapkit's tongue as his tail finds Voidkit again. "Please?" Voidkit grumbles quietly.
"Okay...if we only have to watch..."
The three kits hesitantly creep toward the entrance, Snapkit in front. His body shakes with excitement, his mind busy thinking up epic battle scenes, where his little claws slice the throat of the Shadowclan leader. He'd be the leader, practically! He'd be famous!
Snapkit barely notices when his pelt slips into the pale-orange light of dawn. His paws rest on smooth stone, which quickly fades into air as Snapkit leaps lower, to another stepping stone.
"I thought we're just gonna watch," Voidkit pipes, eyes wide as he peers at the battle. Snapkit turns to tell him he can turn back, but he quickly notices a problem. The stepping stone he had just leaped down was taller than them, way too large and tall to hop back up. As Crackkit joins them, Snapkit feels unease stir in his stomach.
"Um, we are," Snapkit lies, "Just..uh... getting a closer view. Yeah." Snapkit drops down to a clumsy crouch. "Let's go."
Voidkit and Crackkit mimic Snapkit, dropping to crooked, lop-sided, little crouches. Snapkit creeps forward, head low and tail dragging against the stone and then the dirt. The battle is louder here, the screeches and hisses and growls more pronounced. Snapkit presses his ears against his skull, muffling the sound, but not by a lot. His brothers do the same.
