Where did he go wrong?

Start from the beginning

"Watch out!" Suddenly, Snapkit is kicked back into the stone wall, his head banging against the large stone. Pain seizes the kit, but his eyes remain just cracked open, his claws popping out of their sheathes and clawing blindly at a foggy brown figure.

"Get away from him!" Voidkit's voice screeches as the black splotch hops into view. Snapkit blinks, clearing his vision. Voidkit's little claws scrape at a scarred brown tom's ankles, before Crackkit joins in, biting down hard into the Shadowclan cat's tail. The brown tom only laughs, flicking Voidkit away, and raising his tail.

"Kit patrol, huh?" The tom laughs, yellow teeth glimmering, "Is Windclan that deprived of warriors?"

Snapkit's head still throbs, but he wobbles to his paws. "We're not," he growls, "Leave us..."

"Go back to your mommy," The brown tom hisses in Snapkit's face, "Your head is bleeding."

"Thanks to you!" Voidkit spits, tail lashing, "Get out of Windclan camp!" The tom lifts a hefty paw, claws out, and slashes Voidkit's eyes. Blood wells as Voidkit reels back, hissing and whimpering. Snapkit leaps in front of his brother, teeth bared and eyes wide.

"Mom!" Crackkit screeches, darting under the brown tom's paw as he attempts to claw the orange and white kit, "Mama!"

"I'm bleeding," Voidkit whispers breathlessly into Snapkit's ears, "A lot." Snapkit's stomach churns with worry, as he turns to Voidkit for a split second before the brown tom takes a strong step forward. He growls, teeth bared.

"You'd better-"

Snapkit doesn't listen forward, instead nudging Voidkit with his paw. "Scatter, run," he whispers urgently, and Voidkit only quickly nods. And instantly he is gone, pelting from the stones to the edge of camp. He's more exposed there, yes, but at least he's away from this muscled Shadowclan tom.

Crackkit runs too, out of Snapkit's view, but probably ducking into the small space under the stones. Snapkit has to go too, but where? Quickly, the little tom's eyes dart between the brown tom's legs and beside him. Everywhere is battle, everywhere. There is nowhere to go, nowhere safe to go. Maybe with Crackkit, but the tom might follow, and get them both killed. Snapkit draws in a shaky breath. He has to be brave, like Igloostar always says. Just be strong.

Snapkit bares his teeth, flattening his body against the ground. The tom raises a paw, but before he can aim it at Snapkit, the kit springs forward. He lands square on the tom's fluffy face, claws sinking into his cheeks. The tom yowls, head whipping back and forth.

Adrenaline pumps through Snapkit's veins and he holds on, scrabbling up the tom's face. Snapkit stops, panting, before one final whip of the tom's head sends him flying into the chaos of the battle.

The tom scrambles to his paws, blinking his eyes open to scan camp. Just battle and more battle, but noticeably the camp looks less crowded. Are cats...leaving?

Snapkit doesn't have that much time, so he darts across camp, ducking behind a convenient heather bush. The kit crouches, gulping in air, shaking in pure fear as he watches the battle unfold.

Pondscour hops away from a pair of unsheathed claws, retaliating with a coordinated swipe to the opposing she-cat's nose. It misses, but just barely. The Shadowclan cat hisses, leaping forward. Pondscour ducks, before darting up to head-but the she-cat's stomach roughly. Snapkit winces, though admiration wriggles in his stomach. One day he'll fight like that.

"What. Are. You. Doing?"

Leafquiver's familiar voice demands, her eyes deadly. Instantly, Snapkit cowers. "I-uh... We we're just watching..." Leafquiver only looks angrier.
