A/N: Yesss!~ It's me again~ Did you miss me? Okay, that's a no... Anyways, it's finally done! But I still have more to work on.
And yes, I finally found some time to update my chapters or whatever. Let's just say I've managed to squeeze in some time for this.
Hope you enjoy, fellas! 😉
...
The beast lunged, claws gleaming like it had spent an unhealthy amount of time in a nail salon dedicated to doom.
I dove to the side, managing to avoid becoming monster much, and rolled to my feet in one motion. Somewhere, Jackie Chan would've been proud.
"Well, aren't you just a ray of sunshine," I muttered, gripping my dagger tighter.
"Bet you're a hit at dinner parties."
The creature snarled, unimpressed by my attempts at banter. Typical.
I scrambled back as it swiped at me again, its claws carving trenches in the dirt. My mind raced.
Utilize the environment,
the system said. Because sure, a mystical voice in my head was definitely qualified to give survival tips while I was about to become an all-you-can-eat buffet.
My eyes darted to the stream, the glint of moonlight off the water catching my attention. A plan half-baked and completely reckless began to form.
"Hey, big guy!" I called, waving my dagger like I was trying to direct traffic.
"Over here! Yeah, follow the idiot with the shiny knife."
The beast roared and charged, which was both terrifying and exactly what I was hoping for.
I bolted toward the stream, leaping over mossy rocks and praying I wouldn't twist an ankle.
Behind me, the monster's heavy footsteps shook the ground.
"Here goes nothing," I muttered, reaching the edge of the stream.
I whirled around, bracing myself as the creature closed the distance.
At the last second, I dove to the side again, hitting the ground with a grunt as the beast barreled past me straight into the water.
Its roar turned into a surprised yelp as it lost its footing on the slippery rocks and tumbled into the deeper part of the stream.
For a moment, there was only the sound of splashing and angry growling. Then, silence.
The beast glared at me from the middle of the stream, drenched and looking like a particularly grumpy, oversized cat.
"Yeah, that's right!" I yelled, chest heaving.
"Hydration is important! Maybe you'll learn to lighten up."
It snarled one last time before sinking off, disappearing into the darkness.
I collapsed onto the ground, every muscle in my body screaming in protest.
"Hostile entity neutralized,"
the Detector System announced, sounding as smug as a cat that just knocked a glass off a table.
"Gee, thanks for the update," I muttered, staring up at the sky.
A soft squeak drew my attention, and I looked over to see Squeaks cautiously climbing down from its tree.
It approached me slowly, its oversized ears twitching with every step.
"Finally decided to stop being a spectator, huh?" I said, too tired to sit up.
Squeaks chirped and hopped closer, sniffing at me curiously before nuzzling its fluffy head against my arm.
For the first time since waking up in this insane world, I let out a genuine laugh.
"Guess you're not such a traitor after all," I said, scratching behind its ears.
The glade fell quiet again, the moon casting a peaceful glow over the scene.
For the first time, I felt like maybe, just maybe, I could survive this ridiculous reincarnation package.
But as I lay there, catching my breath, one thought nagged at the back of my mind.
What on earth was going to come after me next?
