The girl skipped ahead, her footsteps light and airy. As he followed her, he saw a stitched on name on the backpack. Maddie. Was that this girls name?? He continued to follow, until he caught a glimpse of himself in a mirror hanging on the wall. Elliot stopped dead in his tracks, eyes widening in horror and disbelief. The reflection showed a small girl, no older than six, with long, flowing hair that cascaded down his back and shoulders. The pink pajama top she wore had a large, heartwarming design of Stitch and Angel kissing happily on the chest. The chest normal smooth fabric, while the sleeves where a soft fleece texture. The sleeves cuffs fell just below her hands. The oversizedness brought him, no her? Comfort, hiding her now smoother and smaller fingers. She pulled the blanket aside slightly to reveal more of herself.

Her gaze dropped to the pajama bottoms she wore. Already having seen the designing, her eyes can't look away. The same plush, fleece material. Locked in and mesmerized by the texture, just like the blanket that had been wrapped around her. The pants had several illustrations of Stitch and Angel, but different from the ones designed on the blanket in various cute poses scattered around. The material hugged her now smaller frame perfectly. She felt a strange sense of warmth, despite the fear that gripped her, as she looked at the soft fleece that now covered her body. She reached up to touch her face, feeling the softness of her new skin. Her eyes searched for any hint of the person she once was.

She walked through the entrance of the kitchen, pausing and looking back at Ellie with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Ellie, You okay back there?" She asked, her voice echoing in the hallway. She nodded, her head bobbing slightly with the effort. "I-I'm okay," she replied, knowing she's full well not. Her voice small and shaky, now completely unfamiliar. The duck in her  arms felt like a lifeline, a tether to the world she once knew. But, she smiled slightly, hopeful for... something.

She took a deep breath and followed Maddie into the kitchen. It was like stepping into a mansion, everything so much larger than she remembered. Everything was the same size, just slightly altered to the new families style. The counters towered over her, knowing she'd need assistance to be brought up to a chair. Maddie opened the fridge, the light spilling out and illuminating the room in a soft, cool glow. She pulled out a heart-shaped box filled with chocolates. "Look!" She exclaimed, holding out a valentine's card. It was decorated with cartoon characters, the kind she would've picked out for her friends at school, if she had friends. The kind she had picked out for her mother and brother, before everything changed.

She looked at the card, and then at the girl, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She knew she had to play along. Ellie opened her arms and gave her a gentle hug, wrapping the plush blanket around her waist as well. The warmth of the material enveloped both of them, creating a small bubble of safety amidst the chaos. She giggled, leaning into her embrace, oblivious to the horror that had unfolded in the room she just left. What happened to her, and her family. For a moment, it was almost... normal. But the memory of her mother's pleading eyes and Stephens silent screams were still fresh in her mind, and she couldn't ignore them. Matter of fact she's wearing literal pajamas that was once her own step dad...

The girl pulled away, her smile never wavering. "Let's go sit in the living room," she said, taking her hand. She followed her, her legs taking smaller steps to keep up with her pace. The living room was a wonderland of plush surfaces and soft textures, everything designed to be cuddled and snuggled with. The couch looked like a giant marshmallow, the pillows like fluffy clouds. She felt a pang of longing for the simplicity of Her old life, but she knew that was gone now. This was her reality, and she had to adapt. Folded blankets of all colors and designs.

She sat in a corner, always being comforted by the cushions by her side. A corner to herself. The pillows and cushions engulfed her, and she felt a sense of security that she hadn't felt since before the transformation. The girl sat next to her, her legs dangling over the side of the couch as hers was laid out on automan. She opened the box of chocolates and held it out to her. "Pick one," she urged, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Ellie reached in, the material of the pajamas making her happy. Ellie chose a chocolate heart and took a tentative bite. The sweetness filled her mouth, enjoying the amazing treat.

The girl took a bite of her own chocolate, her cheeks puffing out adorably as she chewed. She looked at Ellie with a question in her eyes, as if waiting for her to say something. She swallowed hard, the taste of sweetness mixing with the bitter reality of her situation. "Thank you," she murmured, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own racing heart. She nodded, a look of understanding crossing her face.

The warmth from the blanket and the girl's body was surprisingly comforting. Ellie leaned into the embrace, feeling the plushness of Maddies own clothes against her new skin. The material of the pajamas was softer than anything she had ever felt, and she'd realized with a start that she had never noticed the softness of fabric before. It was like a gentle caress, a reminder that maybe, just maybe, this new world wasn't all bad. She could feel her heart rate slowing, her breaths evening out.

The girl took Ellie's hand and led her through the house. Each step was like walking through a dream. The walls hung with pictures of this new family, some even with her in it. Her gaze fixated on everything that's now changed.

Passing the time with her now new older sister, until Maddie's mom and dad arrived home with her big brother who clearly looks like he's a senior in highschool. They all greeted Ellie so well, smoothly and nonchalantly and interacted with her so, family like. She did her best to act ok, taking all of this in. Maddie's mom or, now her new mom? Cooks dinner, delicious smells filling the house as she cooked, and plated up food. She lifted her up to the kitchen table. The duck stuffed animal sat on her lap, as the blanket draped over the back of the chair. Ellie's new mom preparing a plate for her that she knew Ellie would enjoy, in obvious smaller portions than theirs. Just for her. Eating carefully so she don't spill food on her pajamas.

Everyone chatted with each other so, warmly. They didn't know about her past, about the fear she held in her heart. They didn't know the truth behind her transformation. But here, in their care, she felt a strange sense of belonging. No embarrassment. Laughter being shared as their days were told. After finishing eating dinner, the day seemed to fly. Especially because It was later than when she usually ate.

She had never felt so... safe, in such a long time. Maybe it was the way they talked to her, or the way they held her so gently. Maybe it was the smell of the house, a mix of something sweet and comforting that reminded her of a time before the fear. Before soon, nightfall had arrived, and the house was bathed in a warm glow from the lights scattered throughout the room.
