"I said I would, didn't I?" Anna replied with a playful nudge "besides, I had to tell you, Feathers and I flew."
His eyes widened with excitement "you did? that's incredible! how was it?"
"It was... everything" she said, her voice full of wonder "I wish you could've seen us, Feathers was amazing. The saddle held perfectly Hagrid gave me and I still can't believe it happened."
"I can," Hiccup said gently "you've worked so hard for this."
Anna smiled, her heart full "thanks. I just....well, I wanted you to be the first to know."
Hiccup met her gaze, and for a moment, they stood in quiet understanding, the forge warm around them, the night still and calm outside.
"I'm glad you came," he said softly "me too" Anna replied.
"I'm actually planning to wake up early tomorrow" he said suddenly, glancing back at the saddle "before dragon training starts, I want to try it out on Toothless. just us"
Anna's eyes sparkled "think he'll like it?"
"I hope so" Hiccup replied with a grin "if it works the way I designed it... it might be the smoothest flight we've had yet."
"You'll let me know how it goes?" she asked, tilting her head.
"Of course" he said "or... if you're up early enough, maybe you'll see it for yourself."
Anna smirked "is that a challenge?"
"Maybe" Hiccup said, raising an eyebrow "race you to the skies."
She smiled to herself, about to speak about to ask if she could join him in the morning when Hiccup glanced over his shoulder at her, a spark of excitement in his expression.
"You should come," Hiccup said, turning to face her fully "if you want."
Anna blinked "really?"
"Yeah" he said, with a casual shrug, though his tone was sincere "I mean... you've been a part of everything leading up to this. It wouldn't feel right trying it out without you there and besides Toothless probably flies better when you're watching."
She laughed, stepping closer "I don't know if that's true, but... I'd love to come and I was actually going to ask you if I could."
Hiccup grinned. "Well, guess I beat you to it."
"Barely."
He raised a brow. "Still counts."
Anna rolled her eyes with a smile "fine, fine but only if I get to bring breakfast"
"Is it fish?" he asked, narrowing his eyes "not for you" she said, giving him a playful shove "but I know someone who might appreciate it"
"Alright" Hiccup said, chuckling "meet me at the cove just after sunrise?"
Anna nodded. "I'll be there."
And as she turned to leave, she felt a flutter of anticipation rise in her chest not just for the morning flight, but for everything that was slowly beginning to take shape between them.
The night air was crisp as Anna walked home, the forge's warmth still buzzing beneath her skin and the saddle was finished.
Hiccup had invited her to come in the morning, everything felt like it was finally starting to fall into place.
