Chapter Two:
Realization

They separated Raven Gray and Silas during the goodbye hour, Silas had friends to say bye to him, and he had his father and mother, Raven Gray was a loner she never made a friends in school, but she did have her band but she didn't know if they would actually say goodbye. So she had Micah and Valerie to really say goodbye too, if circumstances were different she could say goodbye to Silas but he was going with her they had a week for goodbyes.
Her band members in fact did come say goodbye to her each got three minutes, she was pretty happy with it considering the circumstances but it meant they actually cared for her. It was a band of six people, including Raven Gray and Silas and that was 4 more people she got to say bye to. After all 12 minutes were up, Raven Gray sat in silence again until the door opened revealing Valerie. She hugged her. And she pulled away from her.
"No matter what happens in that arena, I am so proud of you, and I am lucky enough to consider you my daughter." hearing that made Raven Gray want to cry. Micah and Valerie tried for a second kid but it never worked out. Raven Gray was the daughter she never had.
"I am thankful to call you my mama." Raven Gray said. In her mind she had two mothers, and Annabel Rose and Valerie knew that. Annabel Rose was her ma, the woman who gave her life, her name, her culture. Valerie was her mama, the mother figure that took over after her ma passed.
Valerie pulled her into another hug and held her tight, they just hugged until times was up. They pulled Valerie out and a couple minutes went by and Micah came in and hugged her and told her things were gonna be okay, she pretended she believed him, even though they both knew she wasn't coming out of this alive. She would die in that arena just like her pa.
"I'm gonna protect him, I promise." Raven Gray promised him.
"You'll put yourself in danger if you do that." Micah told her.
"I won't let you lose anyone because of me." She told him.
"And I can't lose you." Micah said, she had tears in her eyes.
"Thank you. . .for everything you did for us, for my ma, for raising me, just for all of it." Raven Gray held him tighter.
"I wish your ma and pa could see you, they would be proud of you." Raven Gray could tell he was holding back tears, but so was she. He was the only father figure she ever had in her life, and now the likelihood of her seeing him again was zero. He gave her a kiss on the forehead before whispering an I love you before the peacekeeper came in. "Times up." And they shoved Micah out of the room.

The ride in the carriage to the train station was silent as the people of District 10 watched them ride off to their death and as they watched them get on the train, and as they waved goodbye to the wierdo and the boy.
