The air inside the interrogation room was thick with the smell of coffee and stale paper. Angela sat at the table across from Austin, her hands folded but her gaze sharp. The young Ranger who had once stood with her was now the key to unraveling everything they’d fought to expose.

Austin shifted uncomfortably in his seat, sweat trickling down his face despite the air conditioning humming above.

“Don’t make this harder than it has to be,” Angela said, her voice calm but firm. “You can help us end this, Austin. Tell us everything. Why did you work with Monroe?”

Austin glanced at the door. He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing as if the truth weighed more heavily than the air around them.

“You don’t understand,” Austin muttered, his voice strained. “I was just trying to protect the department. I was trying to protect you.”

Angela leaned in, her expression hardening. “Protect me? By stabbing me in the back? By going along with Monroe’s plan to sell us out to the Circle?”

Austin flinched but then shook his head. “You don’t get it. Monroe’s got influence. He’s untouchable. There’s nothing I could do.”

Angela’s fist clenched on the table. She could feel her temper rising, but she pushed it down. There had to be something more.

“You were a Ranger. You swore an oath to protect the people, not play a game for power,” Cordell’s voice cut through the tension as he entered the room. He was calm but there was steel behind his words.

Austin looked at Cordell, his face pale. “You don’t get it. Monroe’s been pulling the strings for years. He’s untouchable because of the power he has. We all thought the Circle was just some old myth. But they’re real. And Monroe’s at the center of it.”

Angela exchanged a glance with Cordell. “The Circle…” she murmured, feeling a pit form in her stomach.

“You’re just scratching the surface,” Austin continued, his voice quivering. “The Circle’s more than just a group of criminals. They’ve infiltrated the highest levels of law enforcement—everywhere. Monroe’s just one piece of the puzzle.”

Angela’s mind raced. She could feel the pieces starting to fall into place, but there was still so much to uncover. “Who else? Who’s involved?”

Austin’s eyes darted around the room nervously. He seemed like he was about to say something, but his lips were dry, as if the words were stuck.

“Austin, we can protect you,” Cordell said softly. “But only if you give us something we can use.”

Austin closed his eyes, his head dropping into his hands. “There’s a file. I never got a chance to burn it... It’s in Monroe’s office, hidden in a compartment behind his desk. The file has everything you need. Names, locations. It’s all there. Monroe was planning to move all the Circle’s operations to Texas. He’s making his move soon.”

Angela stood up, her heart pounding. This was it—the key to finally stopping Monroe.

“We need that file,” she said, her voice deadly serious. “Now.”

Monroe’s Office – Moments Later

Cordell and Angela moved swiftly through the halls of the building, keeping their heads down. The Rangers had been temporarily relocated to a secure building after the attack on Monroe’s office, and it was only a matter of time before someone realized they were after the file.

When they reached Monroe’s office, the security cameras were down. Angela had expected that. She’d hacked into the system earlier, giving them a small window of time.

She entered the office first, moving like a shadow. The file wasn’t going to be easy to find. Monroe had been meticulous. His office was immaculate, each desk drawer locked, each cabinet secured.

But Angela wasn’t giving up.

“Help me move the desk,” she said, turning to Cordell.

They worked quickly, sliding the heavy furniture aside. The hidden compartment behind the desk was small, its metal edges just visible through a crack in the wall. Angela pried it open, the sound of the hinges barely audible.

Inside was a manila folder, the edges worn but the contents inside clearly labeled. Angela picked it up carefully, the weight of the information in her hands feeling heavier than she anticipated.

She opened it.

The File – Inside Monroe’s Hidden Compartment

The file was thick, packed with pages of information. There were maps—some of them marked with coordinates. There were photographs of familiar faces—Rangers, law enforcement officers, and even some civilians Angela had seen before, all tied to the Circle in one way or another.

She skimmed through the pages, her heart sinking with every new name she read.

“The Circle has operations across the state,” she whispered, her eyes scanning the documents rapidly. “And Monroe’s been coordinating everything. He’s been protecting them for years.”

Cordell stood behind her, looking over her shoulder. “We’ve got the evidence. Now we go public with this. Expose him.”

Angela shook her head. “Not yet. Monroe has too many allies in high places. We need to dismantle his network first. If we don’t, this could go national—and the damage would be too great.”

Cordell nodded, knowing Angela was right. “Then we hit him where it hurts. Take out the head of the snake.”

Ranger HQ – That Night

The next few hours were a blur of phone calls and strategic planning. Angela and Cordell gathered their team, including Leah and Rafael, and briefed them on the information they had uncovered.

“We need to be careful,” Angela said as they went over the details. “Monroe won’t go down easily. He’s got connections everywhere—inside and outside of the Rangers. But we can’t waste time. He’s making his move soon, and when he does, it’s over.”

Leah looked at Angela. “How do we stop him?”

Angela didn’t hesitate. “We take down his operations one by one. We hit every Circle base we can find, gather intel, and expose the people he’s working with. We don’t let anyone who’s involved get away.”

Rafael spoke up. “And we do it fast. Before Monroe knows what hit him.”

Angela locked eyes with her team. They were ready.

“We take down the Circle,” she said, her voice cold with resolve. “And we do it now.”
