Derpy was in the post office, signing a letter from Professor Neighsay. The cross-eyed pegasus smiled at the report card, full of B-pluses and A-minuses. She was proud of her little filly. "I gotta get her something very special for her big day." She though to herself, until an old friend of hers walked in.
"Who's there?" She asked out of habit, perking up when she saw the white unicorn. "DJ!" She squeeled. "What brings you here!"
"Well, you know, Tavi left for Canterlot for a try-out, and she kinda forgot to bring her violin. So... you think you could get it there before seven tonight?"
"Of course!" The pegasus jumped up, grabbing the delicate box the unicorn levitated to her and putting it in a case. "Is that all?" She asked.
"Yes. It should be... 7 bits, right?"
"You know it's just six." Derpy smiled.
"Well, yes, on paper. But we both know you must pay the tax." DJ winked, levitating a small, chocolate-chip muffin out of her sattlebag.
"Aw, DJ, you shouldn't have!" Derpy laughed, but quickly grabbed the muffin, devouring it in two bites.
"Hehehe, okay, Derpy. I gotta go now, see you 'round!" DJ smiled, leaving the office.
"Arright, Derpy. Take a violin to Canterlot. Easy enough." Derpy opened the box, making sure the beautiful violin was in proper care. The delicate instrument was in a specially made case, the insides with some extra added stuffing for perfect safety. The gray pegasus closed the box, and placed her "special importance" seal on it - it must get to Canterlot without it getting damaged.
"You sure you'll be able to handle it?"
Derpy turned around, finding the source of the snide voice to be a navy blue pegasus, with a short, cyan and turqoise mane and sharp, golden eyes.
"It's a piece of cake. Or, muffin, really." Derpy rolled her eyes, one keenly observing the mailpony. "And by the looks of it, you're going to be busy with taking your packages to Rockville, so I can take over the Canterlot deliveries."
"Dear Luna, was that... snark?" The pegasus laughed, flipping around in the air. "Well, that ain't the Derpy I know."
"Yes, because the Derpy you know has better things to do." The annoyed mare stood up, looking to find her boss. Just as she was about to leave though, another pony showed up. Derpy looked out, seeing her newest friend, Sunset Shimmer walk in with her assistant, Gabby.
"Oh, this place is so cool!" Gabby squealed, dashing around the office.
"Don't break anything!" Sunset warned, walking up to Derpy.
"Heya Sunny! How's it going?" Derpy jumped back into place, with her signature ditzy smile to hide her frustrations.
"Pretty good, Gabby's adapting to this town well. Say, Derpy, could you do me a favor, please?"
"Is it delivery-related?" The pegasus asked.
"Yes, I must send my first letter to Princess Luna. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow, but I figured she wouldn't hate it if I sent in the assigment early."
"Okie! That'll be... 3 bits for the letter."
"Wow, great price." Sunset chuckled, levitating the letter to the pegasus. "But... there's something else I wanted to ask you."
"Well then, ask away!"
"Well... Gabby really wanted to take this letter to Celestia, and while a fully grown griffon could make it to Canterlot, she's not trained in long-distance flight. If you don't have any other plans... could she accompany you?"
