Chapter 31 – "Fierce Friends and Quiet Realizations"

It was a strange, almost surreal morning. Y/N had barely slept the night before, her mind racing with thoughts about the conversation with Yuri. The words they'd exchanged, the look in his eyes, had unsettled her in a way she didn’t expect. She wasn’t sure if she was ready for whatever this was, but she couldn’t deny the pull between them. Yuri had always been a complicated puzzle, but now... things felt different.

By the time lunch rolled around, Y/N had still been chewing over the whole conversation, unsure of what to make of it. Was it the start of something more? Or was it just another passing moment, another fleeting feeling she’d overthink into oblivion?

“Hey, what’s with the long face?” Jay Jay’s voice broke through her thoughts as she slid into the seat beside Y/N, her usual fiery energy evident as always.

Y/N gave her a half-smile, trying to mask the lingering unease. “Nothing, just thinking.”

“Thinking? About Yuri?” Jay Jay raised an eyebrow, the mischievous glint in her eyes telling Y/N she was not buying it.

“Ugh,” Y/N groaned, rolling her eyes. “Can we not talk about him right now?”

Jay Jay leaned back, crossing her arms, her expression serious for a second. “Look, I get it. Yuri’s confusing. But if you’re not going to talk about him, at least talk to me about what’s going on inside that head of yours. I know you’re not fine.”

Y/N hesitated, her eyes darting around the cafeteria. “I don’t know, Jay Jay. There’s just so much going on, and then this... conversation with Yuri—”

Jay Jay cut her off, laughing. “Don’t tell me you’re all mopey over him now. You’ve got that look in your eyes, like you’re trying to figure him out, and I’m not sure I’m ready for that.”

“I’m not mopey,” Y/N retorted, half-defensively. She leaned back in her chair, arms crossed, mimicking Jay Jay’s earlier posture. “I’m just... confused. Everything’s changing so fast, and I’m not sure what any of it means.”

Jay Jay’s grin widened. “Well, welcome to the world of confusing feelings. It’s like a giant storm inside your head that you can’t control. But hey,” she added with a wink, “if you need a distraction, I’m always here.”

Felix and Drew, who had been listening quietly, exchanged looks before chiming in.

Drew, always the clown, leaned forward, adding his own two cents. “Oh please, Y/N, if Yuri makes you feel all sorts of things, maybe we can find him a good ‘mood jar’ like we did with the teachers. You know, the one that helps them ‘calm down’?” he laughed, clearly entertained by his own joke.

Y/N couldn’t help but laugh, the tension easing slightly. “You know, Drew, sometimes you say the most ridiculous things.”

Felix chuckled as well. “You’ll need more than a mood jar if Yuri’s gonna keep making you act like this.”

“Right?” Y/N responded, a smirk forming on her lips. “Honestly, I’ve never been more confused by someone in my life.”

Jay Jay suddenly stood up, her fiery spirit lighting up the room. “Alright, alright, listen up! We’ve got a whole bunch of guys to deal with, and instead of sitting here staring at each other, we should just go out there and cause some chaos. Who’s with me?”

Y/N raised an eyebrow, feeling the familiar surge of energy rise in her. “You mean like the good old days?”

Jay Jay winked. “Exactly. Time to make Section E remember who’s boss. Are you in, or are you just gonna sit here like a damsel in distress?”

Y/N stood up without another word, the fire in her eyes returning. “I’m in. Let’s shake things up.”

The rest of their friends laughed, but there was an energy to it. Felix and Drew exchanged amused glances, and Mica was already on her feet, ready to join in on the fun.

The two girls headed out of the cafeteria, quickly followed by their friends. The group was loud, energetic, and full of chaos, just as it always had been. Y/N, despite the tangled mess of emotions she was dealing with, couldn’t help but smile. With Jay Jay around, it was hard to stay upset for long. They ran through the hallways, making jokes, pulling pranks, and getting the usual attention from the rest of Section E.

As they passed by the boys’ section, Y/N’s eyes naturally flickered over to Yuri. He was standing with his usual group, but today, he looked... different. Not just in the way he looked at her earlier, but in the way he stood. There was a noticeable shift in his presence, a quiet intensity that seemed to pull at her.

But for now, she ignored the tug in her chest and focused on the chaos Jay Jay was stirring up. Y/N and Jay Jay were a force together, and right now, that was all she needed to focus on—having fun, causing a little bit of chaos, and forgetting about everything else, at least for a little while.

---

As the day wound down, and Section E settled back into their usual routines, Y/N found herself alone, standing by her locker, her thoughts drifting back to Yuri. There was so much left unsaid, so much that still didn’t make sense. But for the first time in a long while, Y/N realized that she wasn’t afraid of it. Whatever was between her and Yuri—it was something real. Maybe messy, maybe confusing, but real.

And maybe, just maybe, that’s exactly what she needed right now.
