It started raining out of nowhere.

Minji cursed under her breath, tugging her bag tighter under her arm as she stepped beneath the nearest tree. The sky had turned a dull grey, and the school gates were already a blur behind her. Of course, she had an umbrella — beige, with little red hearts Asha had teased her about — but the wind was getting aggressive.

She was about to open it when—

"Hey."

She turned, startled.

Taesan.

Soaked. His shoulders and his hair were drenched, raindrops dripping down his jawline. He looked like he'd walked straight through the storm just to get here. Maybe he had.

Minji blinked. "What are you doing?"

"You're going home, right?" he asked casually, as if he wasn't shivering.

"You didn't bring an umbrella?"

"I didn't think I'd need one," he muttered, pushing wet hair from his forehead. "But I saw you from the building, and figured I'd walk with you."

She stared.

"You look stupid," she said eventually.

He grinned. "So do you."

She scoffed, popped her umbrella open, and started walking. He followed beside her, trying to squeeze under the tiny shelter.

"You could've stayed dry if you didn't run out like that."

"Well," he shrugged, "someone's got to make sure you don't trip into a puddle."

Minji gave him a look. "This is my umbrella. Get your own."

With a mischievous smirk, she tilted the umbrella slightly so it leaned more over her — and less over him.

Taesan's entire left side was instantly soaked.

"Seriously?" he huffed.

Minji grinned. "Oops."

He ducked lower, trying to get back under it, bending awkwardly at the knees to match her height.

"You're doing too much," she laughed, "Just walk normal."

"I can't. You're short."

"I am not that short."

"I'm 183," he said, voice light but smug. "You're 173. I'm taller anyway."

Minji stopped walking.

He stopped too, confused.

She squinted up at him. "...How do you know my height?"

Taesan blinked. "What?"

"You said my exact height."

"I... I'm just smart," he said, eyes darting to the side. "I observe. I pay attention."

Minji's heart skipped in a way she didn't appreciate. She kept walking.

"So you pay attention to me?" she muttered under her breath, just quiet enough that he probably didn't hear.

He did.

But he only smiled to himself and kept bending under the tiny heart-covered umbrella, the rain still dripping from his hair.

Minji didn't look at him. But she didn't move the umbrella back over either.
