Will pov:
Will swore this dinner couldn't get any worse.
Not only was an entire family of vigilantes already suspicious of them, but Will had also gotten jumpy and tried to hit one of them; granted it didn't do much since she threw him onto the floor before it landed.
And now, on top of all that, Will and Nico were exchanging glances, trying to work out how in the hades they were meant to burn part of their food in a fire without looking more suspicious.
Will tried not to look at the dozens of suspicious Bat-eyes across the table. Damian was still glaring, Jason looked way too entertained, Tim was probably already building a spreadsheet of suspicious behaviour, and Bruce Wayne himself had that quiet, calculating look that screamed interrogation imminent
Will coughed awkwardly, deciding to just go for it and hope for the best.
"uh do you guys have a fireplace we can use for uh... religious reasons...?"
The looks that followed that question made Will downright regret ever speaking, as they were all expressions of questioning, suspension, or analysis (or in Nico's case a deadpan)
Dick just chuckled before pointing to the fireplace behind him, that Will must have missed in his anxiousness. Will understood the gesture and awkwardly stood up and scraped part of his dish into the fire. Nico took the oh so polite technique of throwing a bread roll like a baseball into the fireplace.
There was a long, weighted silence as the bread roll hit the flames with a soft thump and began to burn. Will stood there for a second too long, debating whether he should bow, pray, or just spontaneously combust (honestly, he would prefer the latter at this point). Instead, he settled for an awkward smile and shuffled back to his seat like nothing happened. He could feel Damian's eyes tracking his every move like he was a rogue criminal in Gotham's underworld. Jason leaned in with a smirk that could only mean trouble.
Jason leaned closer, propping his chin on one hand with a grin that promised chaos.
"So," he said slowly, eyes flicking towards Nico, "do all you ghost types toss carbs into flames, or is that just your version of a toast from hell?"
Nico's glare felt like ice. The son of hades was clearly over Jason.
"I'm not a ghost."
Jason just smirked at the teens comment, leaning in until there noses were nearly touching
"oh yeah? Prove it then Dracula"
