Harry's voice was so close, along with another one. A quite different one, the same British accent as Harry's but a little more casual and the voice higher.
Niall turned around, and there Harry was, his hair longer than before and he stood at a cart with another man, with a straight fringe and blue eyes, not similar to Niall's, but darker.
Niall couldn't help but stare because they looked so happy, and he almost felt a little jealous to see the couple just as happy him and Harry were once upon a time.
What Niall didn't realise was that Harry had stopped laughing and was looking right at him, a sober expression on his face and jaw line hard and fixated. Harry's green eyes turned a shade darker, just as Niall's did and they both lustfully stared at each other, a nostalgic moment taking over the air. He didn't seem to realize that the man at Harry's side was looking quite fidgety and awkward as he stared at the two men stare at each other.
After what seemed like forever, Harry broke their gaze, and as for Niall, he just looked down, tears threatening to come out but he used self defence and threatened them back. Which was something he was used to doing ever since Harry had left him. Every time he thought about Harry, it would always remind him of what had happened and their splitting. After a while, Niall looked up and this time Harry was back to shopping and barely paid any attention to Niall, who was right behind him. In fact, the other man next to Harry gave Niall a sympathetic look, and a subtle nod before catching up with Harry, who had moved on to the next aisle.
Shaking his head, Niall also moved on with his own grocery, trying hard to get out of his head. But alas, that wasn't working out very well at all. In fact, Harry clouded his thoughts and he almost felt dizzy at some point.
Niall knew he couldn't get infatuated by Harry too much, but both of them knew this wasn't just infatuation, but love. They both still felt for each other and feelings never end, sometimes they turn into hate, or just memories of the other person, but the feelings never go away.
Niall knew that, but Harry didn't seem to realise it. Harry thought Niall was just his past, he thought he had gotten over their long time relationship, but the truth was, as much as he tried to hide it, Harry still lay awake at night occasionally and thought about Niall, he thought about how they used to lay beside each other, both thinking about different things, but both together and also on each others minds, Niall's arm draped across of Harry's torso and his head on Harry's chest.
And he missed the warmth of Niall. He missed the way his skin slightly tingled and burned when Niall touch lingered on it and he missed how Niall's breath fanned against his neck when they hugged. He missed the warmth radiating off of their skins after their 'special' nights. All in all, Harry missed Niall terribly. But of course, he couldn't get himself to admit it to anyone. Not even himself.
Harry's new boyfriend, Louis, was very worried about him. Harry seemed to get distant every so often, completely ignoring Louis, and getting lost in his own thoughts, which dare he say, were about Niall, himself. The moment Louis saw Harry looking at Niall, he knew that there was more than just some random recognition, and it didn't take long to out the pieces together that Niall and Harry were more than friends and knew that Niall was the reason Harry seemed so distracted, and it wasn't just his weird personality.
Of course, the usual jealousy thing did occur and at points, he tried to seduce harry and somehow make him forget about Niall but after a few miserable attempts, Louis knew that it was close to impossible.
Wanting only the best for Harry, Louis finally gave in and thought about talking to Harry.
Their conversation took place about two or three weeks after Niall and Harry's encounter at the grocery store. It was simple and had a quite good start, which made Louis think he was doing the right thing and in the right way but things started going downhill quite soon after.
"Harry, can we talk for a bit, you know, if you aren't busy," Louis had asked, and got a small nod from Harry as his answer. Louis tho that he was in a bad mood, which made him doubt whether he was doing it at the right time, but he went on with his prepared speech anyway.
"So you see, I'm really worried about you-" but he was cut off immediately by Harry, "Why?"
"I'm getting to it, see, you seem so, well, distant and it's worrying me out of my mind," Louis said, "I love you very much and hate seeing you like this,"
Harry cringed internally at the 'I love you,' but didn't say anything.
"You're alright, right?" Louis said, and being answered by a wordless nod from Harry yet again. Louis was a little disheartened by the lack of interest from Harry but it didn't tout him way off.
"And then, we met that guy at the grocery store," said Louis which made the colour drain from Harry's face and made him look away, "And then- boom!- you were all different. And then last night, when we did it," Louis air quoted, "You were suddenly more off in the morning, I just, just, I don't know,"
"I'm fine Lou," replied Harry, after the awkward and quite air lingers between them for a minute.
"But-"
"I said I'm fine," Harry had cut him off and walked away. This hurt Louis more than imaginable, because that's when he figured out that Harry wouldn't love him as much as he loved Harry because Harry had already given his heart away a long time ago to Niall, and it wasn't coming back.
