One Way or Another

Harry took Niall's hand, trying to calm the older boy by caressing his palm with the pad of his thumb. They were waiting infront of the publishers office, because they had called Niall to discuss about his book 'Loving a Man' and Niall was absolutely terrified it was because it was supposed to be a book for men who were gay.

He kept thinking the publisher would do something to him for publishing a gay book, since a lot of people had yet to accept the fact that everyone was different.

It was a very ignorant thing to do, as people would bring up religion about this. It was God, Himself who had made the child the way he or she was. Whether the child was transgender, gay, lesbian, pan sexual or whatever.

It didn't matter to be honest, because when that child was in the womb, the mother and father did not get an abortion regardless not knowing the child's gender or sexuality or how he or she felt inside. But eighteen years later, they'd be the same parents kicking out their child Jessica for being a Justin, or kicking out their child Felix for being a Felicia.

Or maybe kick out that same child out because he or she was different. While other child his or her age liked the opposite gender, they liked the same. But yet, they were still human, weren't they? They had the same nose, hands and face?

Were they not human for liking the same gender? Were they not human for being another gender, although they were born the opposite?

Niall manoeuvred his way around the small class, trying to keep his head down and his earphone from falling out. He had on a dark coat, suit material, with his phone stuffed into his pocket while a Halsey song played, making him more depressed he already was before. Although songs helped him usually, her lyrics always seemed to make him feel so deep. He was fitting in with the Londoners, looking glum and a quiet just as the weather and people in the city. The rain which slowly dripped, only in a slight drizzle, which was why he really didn't need an umbrella unlike most of the business women or men, who walked the streets.

His destination was a fairly good school ahead, where he had been applying for an English teacher. Of course, the principal was quite impressed by his writing position and having read the book herself, had enough time to fill in his application for him and asking him to join. Niall had been quite hesitant at first, but he knew that he had to make a living somehow and not just keep buying needed necessities such as food and clothes, or a to pay for his rent.

He was always one for literature, and also had the motivation of telling others how important literature is, because nowadays, nobody paid attention to how important it was. In the future, everyone would be left with old classics that were written years ago because no one wrote anymore.

When he finally reached the school, his heart dropped.

It was horrible, there was one building which spread out into three, leaving a space for the square, like a trifold. The paint was light, like a sepia filter was covering it, and there was basically no sound whatsoever, almost as if a tumbleweed would roll by out of nowhere.

His heart hurt, not just because of the school, but for the children that were sat inside, studying in the worst type of surroundings. There was no colour, no sound, nothing at al which would draw the kids towards the school. He wouldn't be surprised if the kids were absent most of the time, because even he wouldn't want to go to this school, and he would be teaching there.

(A/N ok lmao this used to be my elementary sch minus the fact that there was actually color and its v nice. I'm in high sch now but I miss it a lot)

Taking a deep breath, he walked inside keeping a lookout for a student or teacher so he could ask for the directions to the general office, where he suspected the teacher was. No matter how lonely and colourless the place was, he still had the first-day-of-job-nervousness.

Thankfully, the school did have directions, such as small signs on the wall pointing to different directions which stated 'general office' and Niall was able to find the place in no time, and even enter in with only a few confused glances being thrown at him. No one really said a word, which was either supposed to be something such a rule, he had thought. The school teachers must've taught the children to not stare so he was given a few nods and 'good morning's, as well.

Niall couldn't help but notice that the school had a uniform policy as well. It was simple, really, with a plaid skirt and white shirt which was tucked into the red skirt, it was the same for the boys, except of course they had pants, which were grey and both had black polished shoes, for girls more of a heeled pump but for boys just plain office type shoes.

When he went to the principal, he greeted her first of course, and started to falsely compliment her school.

"Hello! Mrs. Reed!" He had shouted, a little too enthusiastically than needed. In fact, she had even given him a peculiar look, as if regretting her decision just because he might greet the students like so every morning.

"Hello...." She checked a few of her papers, "Mr.Niall Horan?"

"Yes yes, it's me," he laughed, making it a little awkward, "That's me Niall Horan,in your amazing and wonderfully colourful and beautiful school!" He smiled toothily, giving her a thumbs up, but immediately putting it down when he saw her expression.

"Ah, yes," she said, frowning, "Our very colourful school. But here's the deal mister, we don't really take any of the bullshit that our teachers also gave us, so I'd very much respect if you didn't lie,"

Niall was taken aback by her answer and tried to laugh it off, but his shock was not gone unnoticed, "Oh, well, then, yes I do think your school is ugly,"

(A/N face-palmed while writing that)

This time, it was Isabelle Reed's turn to be taken aback. "Excuse me?" She almost screamed.

"No!" Niall screamed, blushing furiously, "I meant, that, uh, plain is beautiful! Yes, it's gorgeous, very,"

And he could only hope that the rest of his interview went well, because to be honest to himself, he had planned to say some 'John Green shit' as he had said to himself.

Well here's a filler chapter.

Niall makes me want to slap my forehead so hard that it falls off, I stg. But I'm so in love with the character. He's the clumsy, nervous type, and probably in the next chapter, you'll see what Harry is like.

And can you believe it? It's already been twelve chapters!

Btw did you understand the chapters name? It's because one way or another he wanted the job lmao I'm so lame
