[ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over, you can check your portals and see your results!!!]

This was the first thing Xie Lian saw when he turned on his internet connection and went to the class groups to check if anything was happening.

But he did not expect to be given such a shock at that point in time as he was sending off his mother at the airport.

"Mom....the...."

The shock was so great, he just pointed at his phone, with a pained expression.

Such an expression alarmed Mrs Xie

"What's wrong?! What happened?!"

"The...the...the results are out"

He said with a tiny voice, he felt like hyperventilating on the spot.

Xie Lian is not normally this timid when it comes to results......no that's a lie, he is.

Someone else checked his Junior High School results for him, he passed with flying colours.

When his Senior High school Results were out, he had to go to the neighbour and hand them his phone so that they check for him, passed again with perfect A+'s in all the subjects he was complaining about.

When the results of his first year of college were out, he had to hand his phone to his friend; Shi Qingxuan, who's also at his college, to check for him on the portal......and, the results? Well if we're being honest here, Xie Lian has never been the hard working model-student type, he's just lucky that he can bullshit his way out of things, school related things to be exact.

The things that save him are essays, if it's out of 20. He doesn't have to know everything, so long as he has an idea about the topic wanting to be discussed, he'll expand on that idea and his essays will look like he knew what he was talking about but in reality if you ask him, he won't tell you shit.

No words on multiple choice questions, he just answers the ones he doesn't know based on instinct.

One word answers are what reveals his flaws, but that doesn't matter, not all lecturers prepare that format.

All in all, he's a lucky bastard that knows how to get around the system, and since he skipped 3 grades during his school years. He ended up studying a lot because of the pressure brought about by skipping grades, so now the procrastination is getting to him.

He doesn't want to study anymore, plus this isn't the program he wanted to study, he's just doing it because his family wanted him to.

So his college life is relatively full of procrastination.

The pass mark or grade for his program, which is a Diploma in pharmacy....is 50% or C grade and above.

So now, all he wants is to be an average student who scores a 50, and if he happens to get more than that...then that will be a happy accident.

He wants to pass and complete his 3 years on easy mode but doesn't want to study.

Alot of people don't see him studying but they see him passing, that's what irritates them.

He's relatively low-key, he only has one friend, and that is Xie Qingxuan, who is also in the same class as him.

Only Shi Qingxuan knows that his friend truly doesn't put in the effort a pharmacy student should, but that damn friend of his always passes all his tests, it's either he'll get 50% and above while he gets a 45% but always less than Xie lian, talk about the unfairness of life?! He feels like complaining all the time!!!

'oh well, I'll just call him a genius to make myself feel better.' that's all Shi Qingxuan can think of to make it make sense.

"You silly child, you scared me to death, I thought it was something important" Mrs Xie was amusedly exasperated with her son's exaggerated reaction.

"This is important mom, I'm serious! this exam is not called intermediate for nothing, I really feel like I'll fail at least 4 courses, I knew nothing at all, I didn't even bullshit my way out of it, I was blindly writing just so that I don't leave a blank space!"

"I calculated it, the number of things I knew don't even amount to 50 marks, at most twenty-something. Even if I had given it my whole and studied properly for that exam, I still think I wouldn't have  managed to do much, that exam was rigged, that's for sure"

"Calm down, give me your phone, if you don't pass, who will"

"That confidence will be the death of me, Mom"

Mrs Xie gets Xie lian's phone with his portal already opened

"Just click here and select the November exam series, then scroll down and then scroll left, you'll see them"

She did as he said and saw the courses first on the interface, then she scrolled left and saw his scores in one column then his grades in another.

Xie lian stood a distance away from her.

"Just tell me if there is a Forty-something somewhere there"

"Uhh....I see fifties, alot of them and some B+"

Xie lian can't believe his ears

"What? No 40? Are you sure?"

He decides to take the phone and see for himself.

Indeed, there are no forty-somes, just 50, 54, 58, 60, 70, 77. Damn, the fifties are probably due to moderation, but he'll take 'em, he promised that he'll work hard for his final year if he passes this intermediate exam, even if he has to write a supplementary exam, so long as it's not a repeat course for the whole year, he'll work hard.

He has been procrastinating for the whole year, so when he sat in that exam room and saw how unbelievably hard the questions were, he felt helpless for the first time in his life, he doesn't want to fail and repeat the year, that's a waste of time not to mention money.

But now, looking at all the hard courses he cleared, he's satisfied.

"Ok, I'll be late for my flight, I'm leaving, bye my baby, study well"

"Alright Mom"

And with that, they part ways.

Before he could be happy for long, another message pops up in the class group

[Sorry for the delayed release, check your portals again, the practicals have been released]

[So here's how it's going to be, the practicals are out of 30 and the theory is out of 100. We have two courses that have practicals as you all know, which is Chemistry and Drug Delivery Systems and Dispensing (DD for short)]

[So if you get a 15 and above in the newly added 'practicals' column and have 50 and above in the theory, you pass.]

[If you get 14 and below in the practicals and more than 50 in the theory and vice versa....then you fail but will be eligible for a supplementary exam to be written next week where you'll have to rewrite both the theory and redo the practicals but you'll have no CA (continous assessment) to rely on. And you won't be eligible for the supplementary exam if your CA is below 20.]

[Lastly, if you get below 15 in practicals and below 50 in theory, then it's a fail and direct repeat. you'll have to repeat that failed course(s) the whole year]

"What's this shit about practicals, damn I don't remember doing well in both, sigh"

Xie lian goes to check his portal again in resignation and he finds:

Chemistry: 60         practical:  11
DD:               54         practical: 15

Ohh well, guess he has a Supp in chemistry, not bad, at least it wasn't Pharmacology or Pathology and medicinal microbiology, it's full of bulky notes. If he can get that 60 once, he can do it again!!! Yes, he doesn't like studying, but that doesn't mean he won't when his academic year is on the line.

Fine Chemistry, you think you can overwhelm me just because of a little practical? I passed the difficult bulky subjects, who do you think you are?!
