The Next Day.
The warehouse stank of blood, piss, and fear.
Billy and Jared slumped against the blood-splattered wall, wrists still chained to iron loops bolted into crumbling concrete. Their heads lolled forward, their faces barely recognizable—swollen shut, bruised to hell, bloodied mouths mumbling incoherent pleas every few minutes. They hadn't stood in days. They'd barely spoken. But they were alive.
For now.
The silence was absolute—choking, waiting.
Everyone stood in a wide semicircle around them: the Moretti brothers, the Martinez, Alessandro at the helm, and Kayden—hovering a few paces behind the girl in the center of it all.
Serena.
Her boots clicked against the floor as she walked forward, slow and deliberate. Her black hoodie hung open halfway over a bloodstained tank top, sleeves shoved up to her elbows. Her hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail, exposing the fading bruise along her jawline.
But it wasn't the bruises or the gun in her hand that made everyone go quiet.
It was her calm.
A calm so eerie, so steady, it screamed louder than any sob.
She stopped in front of them. Looked down.
Billy squinted up, blood crusting over one eye. "You... fuckin' psycho..." he rasped, tongue swollen, lips split.
Serena tilted her head, blinked once.
And raised the gun.
Bang.
Billy's head jerked sideways with the shot, and he collapsed like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
Bang.
Jared's eyes widened just in time to see the barrel shift toward him.
Then his head snapped back, thudding into the concrete wall behind him before he slumped forward.
Blood trickled down the wall. Pooled on the floor. Spread toward her boots.
Serena didn't flinch.
No wince. No flicker of satisfaction. Just... silence.
Everyone else stood frozen. Even Alessandro, stone-faced and cold, took a moment.
Then he stepped forward, voice low but commanding. "Get rid of them. Burn the clothes, wipe the cameras, bury them where even God forgets. This is over."
Dante gave a low whistle. "Well. That's one way to close a chapter."
Adrian nodded, eyes unreadable. "Execution-style. Cold. Clean. Final."
Serena finally turned around, lowering the gun. Her shoulders lifted as she inhaled deeply—then exhaled, like she'd been holding her breath for months.
And then she spoke.
"Okay. Now can we fucking eat? I want a greasy-ass McDonald's burger and a bucket of fries."
Everyone stared.
Kayden blinked. "You just blew two men's brains out and now you want a Big Mac?"
"Yup." She popped the 'p' and gave a one-shouldered shrug, already walking toward the door.
Nico muttered, dragging a hand down his face. "Can you not go full serial killer and then immediately crave fast food? There should be a cooldown period or something."
"What? I'm emotionally balanced!" she called over her shoulder. "I murdered my demons and now I want nuggets. It's called healing, bitch."
Adrian snorted. "Balanced my ass."
"Seriously," Luca added dryly, "how are you the scariest one in this room? We're actual mobsters."
Dante raised his hand. "I support the McDonald's idea. I'm starving."
"You're all traitors," Nico hissed.
As the group started toward the cars, Alessandro stayed back a moment, watching Serena with unreadable eyes before finally turning to follow.
Kayden caught up to her, slipping his hand into hers like it was second nature now. "You okay?"
Serena looked up at him, her expression softer than it had been in days. "I'm okay now."
He raised a brow. "Like, actually okay? Or the 'I just committed double homicide and now I'm suppressing my trauma with fries' okay?"
She grinned. "Bit of both."
Kayden chuckled under his breath. "Justice served?"
She gave his hand a squeeze. "On two bullets."
He smiled. "And soon, on a tray with ketchup."
As they stepped outside and the warehouse door slammed shut behind them, Serena paused. She looked up at the sky—gray and cold and cloud-covered—but it felt lighter.
Her scars hadn't disappeared. The ghosts hadn't vanished.
But for the first time in a long time...
She felt free.
Leo could rest now.
And so could she.
