The Avengers Tower glittered like a jewel against the New York skyline. Tonight, it wasn’t a battleground—it was a ballroom.

The grand hall had been transformed, celebrating the official alliance between the X-Men and the Avengers. The two teams had clashed and collaborated many times before, but this night was about unity, about future missions and sharing resources. About peace… and perhaps, connection.

You adjusted the sleeves of your dark blazer, swirling your glass of champagne as you scanned the room. Thor was recounting a story to Storm in the corner, gesturing wildly. Wolverine already looked like he wanted to punch someone. Professor X was deep in conversation with Vision. And Tony? Tony was flirting with Emma Frost, as expected.

You weren’t here for any of them.

You were here because you were curious. About him.

Hank McCoy. Beast. A mutant genius with a mind as deep as your own.

You turned—and there he was.

Towering, blue, and currently examining a tray of canapés as if they were part of a biochemical experiment.

“Goat cheese and fig,” he muttered to himself. “Intriguing. Is the sweetness meant to contrast the acidity? Or is it just to confuse the tongue?”

You smirked and stepped closer. “You’re overanalyzing finger food. That’s how I know we’ll get along.”

Hank turned to you, startled—but his eyes quickly lit up.

“And you must be Y/N,” he said with a smile, voice a deep baritone wrapped in velvet. “One of Stark’s golden boys. Scientific prodigy. Biochemical engineer, temporal theorist, and—if rumors are correct—owner of the Avengers’ best espresso machine.”

You raised your glass in greeting. “Guilty as charged. And you’re Beast. Mutant biochemist, expert in genetics, and the only person in this room who probably read the full treaty before signing it.”

He chuckled, and it was warm, resonant. “I read it twice.

“Of course you did.”

You clinked glasses, an unspoken truce forming.

Later That Night – Corner of the Balcony

You and Hank had found refuge outside, away from the dance floor, where Peter Quill was now aggressively karaoke-ing “I Want It That Way.”

The stars glinted above the skyline, and the sounds of the party were muffled by thick glass.

“So tell me,” Hank said, adjusting his glasses, “what drives a mind like yours to join the Avengers? Fieldwork is... messy.”

You leaned against the railing. “I didn’t join for the action. I joined to help fix what the world can’t understand. I build tech to prevent war. I design containment protocols. I map temporal fissures so we don’t get another Ultron situation. You?”

He glanced toward the city. “I used to think I could solve everything in a lab. That if I just understood enough, I could cure hate. But the world doesn’t wait for cures—it bleeds while you theorize.”

You nodded, watching him, struck by how eloquent he was. Passionate. Sad, maybe, but grounded.

“Let me guess,” you said softly, “sometimes you still wish you could hide in the lab forever?”

He smiled faintly. “Every day.”

You took a step closer. “And yet, you came to this party.”

“I heard you would be here,” he replied, not meeting your eyes.

You raised a brow. “Flattery, Doctor McCoy?”

“I’m a scientist. I state observable truths.”

“Observable truths like what?”

He turned to face you fully now. The moonlight shimmered off his fur, highlighting the sharpness of his eyes—intelligent, searching, vulnerable.

“Like the fact that in a room full of enhanced beings, you stood out to me. Not because of your abilities. But because you listen.”

You swallowed. Your heart fluttered, damn it.

“You’re... not what I expected,” you admitted. “I thought you’d be all logic. Stoic. Detached.”

Hank chuckled. “That was the plan. Then you came over, and now I’m outside on a balcony at midnight talking about the ethics of heroism and molecular gastronomy with someone I just met.”

“I’m told I have that effect.”

There was a beat of silence. Electricity crackled between you—not superpowers, just something simple. Real.

Then Hank leaned in slightly, voice lower. “Would you join me in the lab sometime? I’ve been studying cross-species regenerative traits and... I think your insights could be invaluable.”

You smirked. “Are you asking me to collaborate or are you flirting?”

“Can’t it be both?” he asked, and for once, the confident intellect behind his words gave way to a rare flicker of nervousness.

You held his gaze. “It can. And yes. I’d love to.”

His grin grew wider. “You realize what this means?”

“What?”

“We’ll have to endure countless terrible science puns together.”

“Bring it on, McCoy,” you said. “Just don’t blame me when I genetically engineer a pun so bad it ends all conversations.”

Inside the Tower – Watching From Afar

Tony clinked his glass next to Charles Xavier. “They’re either going to invent a whole new field of science together... or blow up my lab.”

Charles smiled. “Maybe both.”
