"It left me torn apart but now I see your tears as an omen."
Omen by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith

I stood frozen in place. His eyes met mine and I could see that he was waiting for me to do something or at least say anything. When he moved to stand up, I took a step back, making him stop.
"Mitch, please," he pleaded.
"Bitch, why are you standing there?" Lia asked as she stepped inside, unaware of Scott's presence. Eventually she spotted him. "Do you want to leave?" she whispered.
My eyes never left Scott and his stayed focus on mine, too.
"Mitch, give me a chance to explain." He was gripping the edge of the couch like it was the only thing keeping him from running to me.
I was so conflicted and I didn't feel anywhere near ready to face him. I didn't want to speak to him, however I was aware that I needed answers - answers which may not be the truth. But I needed to hold on to something other than the possibilities my cruel mind came up with. Besides, Scott has always been my weakness. The pained expression on his face and the hope mixed with fear in his eyes made my heart clench.
I turned my head back. "Hon, I'll be fine. Thanks for driving me home."
Her eyes widened at me. "Are you sure? You don't have to do this right now."
"I'm not... sure," I admitted in a hushed tone. "But like you said, I need to sort my shit out. And I'd rather do it now."
"I can wait in the car," she offered. Lia still seemed unsure of leaving me with Scott.
I stepped forward and hugged her by the waist. "I will be fine... I think. I'll call you later."
She returned my hug. "You better call or else I will assume that he has murdered you and I will have to murder him to avenge your death."
"Let's hope it doesn't have to reach that point," I replied with a weak smile.
"Call, okay?" she reminded me as she released me.
"I will. Promise."
Once Lia left the apartment, I turned back around and returned my gaze to Scott. He was still on the couch and he had barely moved. I slowly made my way towards him and chose to sit on the opposite end of the couch.
"Mitch," he started.
"You lied to me." The words were out of my mouth before I could even think.
"Mitch," he whispered again as he moved towards me.
"Stop," I commanded him. "Just... don't come near me." I didn't want Scott close to me because I wasn't sure what I was going to do. A part of me wanted to melt in his arms while another part of me wanted to physically hurt him.
"Mitch, it isn't what you think."
"Did I imagine Alex? Was he a ghost or was I just hallucinating?" I couldn't help the sarcasm.
Scott sighed loudly. "Mitch, I swear I'm not cheating on you."
"Who arranged that meet-up? Did he ask you to meet up with him?"
He looked me in the eyes and paused before answering. "I did. I -"
I abruptly stood up, cutting him off. "You were the one that asked to see him?" I yelled. "And you're telling me you're not cheating??"
"Mitch, wait -"
I started walking towards the front door. I regretted sending Lia away because I really wanted to get out there and fast. "Fuck you, Scott. You know how impossible it has been for me to deal with the fact that he was back in our lives and you were the one who sought him out!?"
