8:30 AM – Grey’s Office
“I’ll take it,” Alice said, sliding the form across the desk.
Grey didn’t smile.
Instead, he hesitated.
“There’s something you need to know.”
Alice froze. “That’s never a good start.”
Grey folded his hands. “The detective slot you’re filling? It’s part of a new joint task force initiative between LAPD and NYPD. They're placing a few of our rising officers in New York to cross-train and lead some high-risk casework.”
Alice blinked. “You’re telling me the job’s in New York?”
“I’m telling you,” he said gently, “you’ll have to decide if the badge still matters when it comes with distance.”

9:15 AM – Locker Room
Tim found her staring into her open locker, badge in hand.
“Is that the look of victory or betrayal?” he asked.
“Somewhere in between.”
She finally turned. “They’re sending me to New York.”
Tim didn’t react right away.
Then: “When?”
“A few weeks. Maybe less.”
Silence.
Then he asked, “Is this what you want?”
She stared at the floor. “It’s everything I worked for.”
“But is it everything you want?”
Her silence was his answer.

10:45 AM – Courthouse, Assigned Detail with Lucy
They were assigned security detail on a public corruption trial — nothing too wild. But the crowd outside was heated.
Alice stood beside Lucy, scanning the crowd. Her eyes were focused, but her mind wasn’t.
“You’re quiet,” Lucy said.
“I said yes to the promotion,” Alice replied.
Lucy brightened. “That’s amazing!”
“In New York.”
Lucy’s face fell.
“Oh.”
They watched the crowd for a moment.
Then Lucy whispered, “Are you going?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well,” Lucy said, “If anyone can handle New York, it’s you.”
Alice cracked a tired smile. “I’d rather have a panic attack here. At least I know the traffic patterns.”

1:00 PM – Field Intercept, Suspect Fleeing the Courthouse
A man broke from the press crowd, sprinting past barriers. Alice and Lucy gave chase.
Alice darted through alleys, leapt a fence, and finally tackled him into a pile of recycling bins.
“LAPD,” she panted. “Stop running.”
He raised his hands. “I just—I didn’t want to go to prison in another state!”
Alice stared at him.
