LAPD – Briefing Room

The board was covered in red string and satellite printouts. At its center: the spiral.

Angela stood at the front, marker in hand. “Alice’s memory fragment pointed us to the tunnels. We found real-time plans for a high-level theft involving LAPD evidence transport routes.”

Nyla clicked the remote, bringing up a screen with names, faces, and dates. “They’ve been watching us. And they know about Alice. This crew isn’t just interested in cash—this is about something personal.”

Tim crossed his arms. “Then we get personal back.”

Celina sat nearby, rubbing her temple. “They’re leaving signs. Symbols Alice once sketched in therapy now appear in our crime scenes.”

Aaron added, “We think the next target is the Federal Evidence Lockup. If they hit it, they’ll erase decades of active leverage.”

Angela nodded grimly. “We move tonight.”

Hospital – Alice’s Room

Alice stared at a chessboard someone had left on the side table.

She moved a pawn forward.

Her thoughts weren’t clear, but the familiar feel of strategy soothed her.

Maddie entered with fresh clothes and tea. “You okay?”

Alice looked up. “I remember... the humming. In the tunnels. A song. It was out of place. Like a lullaby.”

Celina stepped inside, eyes wide. “A song? Can you hum it?”

Alice hesitated—then sang a few quiet, lilting notes.

Celina gasped. “That’s the same tune recorded on the radio found near the planning room.”

Maddie knelt. “Alice… your memories, no matter how fragmented, are breadcrumbs.”

Alice’s voice cracked. “Then I hope they lead somewhere before it’s too late.”

That Night – LAPD Tactical Van

Tim adjusted his vest. The squad was prepped, locked in, eyes forward.

He leaned over to Angela. “You really think they’ll risk it all tonight?”

Angela nodded. “They’re emboldened. They left us that clue on purpose.”

Tim’s hand lingered over his radio. “If they know Alice is waking up… they might try to silence her.”

Angela stared ahead. “Then we keep her safe. At all costs.”

Hospital – Same Time

Alice stood at the window, staring down at the city. Kojo, Tim’s loyal dog, lay curled at the foot of her hospital bed—temporarily placed there by a worried Tim.

“I think I used to love someone,” she said softly to the dog.

Kojo’s ears perked.

“But I don’t remember who.”

Her fingers traced the bracelet Maddie gave her. One looped charm—one small rabbit.

Then suddenly—flashes.

A hallway. A gunshot. Her hand grabbing someone’s shirt—Tim?

A voice screaming her name. A feeling of falling.
