Shahneel di stepped back slowly, watching the way I was still curled on the edge of the bed, my hand held in his like it was the only thread keeping me tethered to the ground.
She met Shubman's eyes , something soft, something protective flashing between them. She didn't say anything. She didn’t need to.
Shahneel:I'll be outside if you need anything.
She murmured gently before slipping through the door and closing it quietly behind her.
And suddenly, it was just us. Silence stretched out between us, heavy and trembling, like the calm after the storm.
I was exhausted. Bone-tired. But I couldn’t stop shaking.
Shubman didn't say a word. He simply stood, moved around the bed, and climbed in behind me. Careful. Unrushed. He slid his arm beneath my shoulders, guiding me gently to lie back, his other hand holding the blanket around me.
When I didn't resist, he pulled me into him.
Not possessively. Not dramatically. Just enough to let me know he was there , anchoring me.
His hand found mine again, fingers intertwining instinctively.
Shubman:You're okay now he whispered near my ear, his breath warm against my skin.
Shubman:You can sleep.
I didn't speak. I just turned toward him slightly, eyes still wet.
He moved slowly, carefully brushing my hair back from my forehead.
Shubman:Close your eyes. Just breathe.
His presence felt like safety , like something I'd missed without even realizing.
I don't know how long I lay like that, pressed into the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Minutes, maybe. Or hours.
And then… something cracked inside.
You:I still remember the night you asked me to leave.
I whispered into the dark. My voice trembled.
You:I waited for you. I waited and waited and nothing. Just silence.
He stilled beside me.
You:I cried so hard that night.
I continued, voice barely audible.
You:And the next morning, I had to go and pretend like it didn't break me. I had to manage press calls, damage control, deal with the stories. But no one saw the girl who couldn't eat for days. Who stopped believing in second chances.
