The team had wrapped up their training and most of the boys decided to crash in Shubman's room for a chill evening. Sai was already sprawled on the sofa, Siraj was fighting with the TV remote, and Kuldeep was raiding the minibar like it was his birthright.
Devdutt, the most well-behaved of the squad, entered last. Water bottle in hand, polite smile, and absolutely no clue about anything.
Shubman waiting on the bed, scrolling on his phone, neck looking much freer after the brace was finally off. He kept looking towards the door every two seconds.
Sai:Bro, what? Expecting paparazzi here also?
Sai teased.
Before Shubman could answer, the door opened, and Y/n walked in laptop in one hand, phone on her ear, clearly in PR-manager mode.
The second she entered, Shubman's entire face lit up like someone turned on full stadium floodlights.
Shubman:Hi.
He said, softly... too softly.
The guys glanced at each other.
She held up a finger, still on the call.
Y/n:One second, Shubi. Let me just finish this.
Shubi?!
Devdutt blinked rapidly. Shubi?? She called him Shubi??
When the call ended, Y/n walked straight to him, fingers brushing his jaw.
Y/n:How's the neck? It started itching again?
And Shubman,India's star batter, youth icon, captain material literally leaned into her hand like a needy puppy.
Shubman:Yeah... little bit.
He mumbled.
Shubman:Feels better when you-
Siraj slapped his own thigh and whispered loudly,
Siraj:Ayee, lover boy activated.
Dhruv snorted.
Kuldeep choked on a biscuit.
But Devdutt... Devdutt froze like someone unplugged him from life.
He quietly whispered
Devdutt:What... what is happening right now?
Then.... the final blow.
Y/n sat beside Shubman on the bed and he immediately rested his head on her shoulder, arm sliding around her waist like it was muscle memory.
Shubman:Can you check if the movement is okay?
He asked in a soft voice no one had ever heard.
Y/n:You're such a baby sometimes.
She muttered lovingly.
DEV. DIED. RIGHT. THERE.
His jaw DROPPED.
Devdutt:BABY?!
Devdutt squeaked.
Everyone BURST OUT LAUGHING.
Sai slapped his back.
Sai:Bro, welcome to the real world. You're the only one who didn't know.
Kuldeep added
Kuldeep:We thought you knew! They're basically married already.
Devdutt:Married?!
Devdutt clutched his bottle like it was holy water.
